This is great stuff...the music at times is so light and exuberant it seems to make the movie into a comedy, a black comedy. These people are struggling to achieve their goals and the music laughs at them for their puny efforts. Yet it is so beautiful and draws you in.

Not only the music -the black and white -light and shade photography is simply a masterpiece -Carol Reed was a superb director -a Caravaggio in black and white with its chiaroscuro presentation ..The great cameraman Sven Nykvist used this technique in his collaboration with Ingmar Bergman .The Third Man would have been much more ordinary if it had been shot in colour -the entire atmosphere would have been missing .

You entirely miss the point my friend, the music of Anton Karras in the film which is called " The Third Man " is the most important part of the film, and even the star studded cast pales into insignificance compared with the music. Take the music away from the film The Third Man, and what is left? the answer is a corny black and white movie, nothing more nothing less, just another corny film. With the music added to the soundtrack, the film becomes a classic in the genre. The music is the most important conduit to the emotional message of the film, which shows the power of music as the FIRST language of mankind, and in this instance the most important means of communication from filmakers Art to it's audience.
