I think that support that you glued to the sled goes in front of the plank, so as the planer pulls the wood through, the wood pushes against the support to drag the sled through rather than it possibly dragging the plank off the sled.

I used to do this when I didn’t have a jointer. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. Buy a jointer.
