as a south asian I must say we don't take food out of the main dish with our hands we use spoon to do that and eat with our hands from our own individual plates

Eating with your hands is still practiced in India but it's digusting to dip one's hands into a bowl of curry. The curry is poured unto the plate with the pieces of solid food and then the hand is used to mix it with the rice. Nobody frigging dips their hand in hot curry sauce like that. Yeck. Inaccurate much?

Um... as an Indian myself... I feel free to declare that we do not take the gravy/curry straight from the serving bowls onto our plates with our bare hands, no matter how hardcore or gross it looks. We use serving spoons. And I find the tag Indian/Muslim culture weird.
