If I recall Chinese history class correctly, there was an emperor who basically starved his wives to the point they tried to kill him, but failed because they were so emaciated and weakened.

You know it's toxic when they want you to be weak and helpless because you might be a potential threat to the emperor 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 and it's still going on lol.

This actually varied between Dynasties. During the Tang Dynasty fuller curvy women was considered beautiful, the prime example being Yang Guifei and is one of the four beauties of China, she is known to be well rounded and curvy.

It looks like they were just insecure of strong women so made a new standard for women to aim to be weak

Crazy how a matriarchal society idolized strength, but patriarchal society preferred them weak and frail 😮

1. Note, when we talked about social control of women, they mainly applied to the upper class only. We only highlight them in history is because most who could write were either the rich or work for them.
2. Women in the working class were generally exclude from these standards because society need them to work.

The white paint likely contained lead and the red paint might have had mercury if it was particularily vibrant, thus, its very easy to be light when youre basically dead.

That's why I have a lot more respect for cultures that historically have appreciated women who were strong and sturdy. Some cultures want their women to be healthy, to survive child bearing and rearing, to be able to defend their family. And some cultures want women to be small and fragile, decorative but unable to fight back, and don't care about them surviving child birth. I know which I prefer.

So when China was a Matriarchy; Women who were curvy, mature, and strong were considered attractive. However, as soon as the Patriarchal Han came into power the Men must've felt threatened by strong beautiful Women and so that irritated their egos. They made Women who were weak (or at least those who looked that weak) delicate, and fragile the standard of beauty. Very insightful. Many times what men see as beautiful is a reflection of who they are and what benefits them but may not actually be the best for the Women that are the target of the Male gaze. Very insightful. Thank you for the video!

Someone so small and fragile could not handle child-birth

It didn't start with "Han汉", it started with "Chu楚国",“楚王好细腰,又称楚腰,绿腰”, Chu King loved tiny waist, and it quickly became a popular beauty standard because at the time, Chu was the leading super power.

We should go back to the matriarchal society that valued functional beauty

Fragile women became the preference when the culture changed from matriarchy to patriarchy.

I don’t care if the whole world wasn’t attracted to me, I’d choose strength, health and my fertility over being “beautiful” any day. As someone who’s experienced weakness from illnesses, nothing compares to gaining strength back and being able to get “labor” done.

Last time I recalled China ones called nations that recognized Women as equal to Men as barbaric and uncivilized. That is why they were appalled by Nam-Viet when they COLONIZED them for a thousand years.
