Palmering is winding a hackle the body length either from rear to front or vice versa, like a rib not just in front of the wing….what you did is make a wet collar! I write this so beginners will not misunderstand your mistaken terminology! Been tying for 55 years!

Its interesting you call it a patate fly, it's a potato fly in my salmon fly book. I think I like the french name better!
