In this Video, I compare a Kala Exotic Mahogany U-Bass with a Carlo Robelli Acoustic Electric Bass Guitar. First is a playing comparison/demo, then my view on each.

I'd get the U bass with a wireless connection to a small battery powered amp. That's a tiny rig that would be useful in many situations.

I’ll always love my acoustic bass.

Thanks for the video.

I just sold my Ibanez acoustic bass to fund a Kala EM UBass!! I’m loving the Kala, but watching your video makes me miss my Ibanez... Bass all the way!

this is incredible! there's barely a difference, if anything, the u-bass sounds better to me

Very cool, I've wondered about this a lot myself. I prefer an acoustic bass mostly because I prefer playing full-sized fretboards and the music I play needs more of an acoustic guitar sound than the upright sound you get from a u-bass.

Ubass for the win! I’ve been toying with the idea of getting an acoustic bass but I’m starting to lean hard toward a ubass.

This was incredibly helpful! Great review, straight to the point!

As someone who owns both of these. I tend to use whichever one I think will work with whatever song I’m making.

I think the acoustic bass sounded better, but the u-bass is still cool. I have a Fender CB-60SCE, and I’m pretty sure I’ll end up getting a u-bass as well.

(I don’t have a problem. I can quit buying musical instruments any time I want to! Don’t judge me! 😜)

I was expecting a massive difference, but I don't think I could tell them apart out of a side by side comparison. Of course, the strings do have an effect on sound.

How about the little Taylor GS Mini Bass? It's a little bit bigger than the UBass so it's going to project more. What D'addario did rather cleverly is use Nylon Core Strings, they're easier to press down, & it's going to greatly greatly lower the amount of tension on the top.

Thanks, Stephen! U-bass is better for me, it's smaller and not louder so I will can play without disturbing the neighbors.

Stephen, have you compared Ortega's ukulele basses with Kala? Have you tried playing, for example, Ortega CAYMAN BS-GB or Ortega Lizzie Lizard Series or not?

For me personally my use of an acoustic bass is just messing around in my room when I'm just trying to fidget and not plug into a rig with pedals. So for a bedroom jammer I think the Ubass is perfect because of its size. My goal is to buy the exotic mahogony and out the flat wounds on them.

My opinion is that their is really no point in getting metal round wound strings on a bass as it has its own unique sound that is awesome the kala with the metal strings just sounds like a acoustic bass

Hey Steven, I just saw they just released a Fender Precision Uke Bass. I haven't seen anyone make a review video yet either

Do you have a video comparison of the Kala U-Bass vs the Ohana Bass? If so can you provide the link? If not can you please do one?

I got a Kala Ubass exactly like the one in the video. But mine came with rubber strings and they aren’t very good to amplify in my wireless 10w amp. So I ordered a ser of expensive roundwound strings and I hope to solve the problem
