I started with an Adafruit Playground Express and found it to be pretty powerful. I made a RC tilt light controller with it.

If ever i have to mess with those cable grips, i don't care if i destroy them, they aren't going back in
If there's room i'll replace with figure 8 (for 2 core) or standard IEC connector, if there isn't enough room, i'll use a small cable gland
I don't like the way those grips crush the cable.

Circuit Python - it's adafruit's flavor of Micro Python. I had BOTH Scott Shawcroft and Tim (foamyguy) on now! (Both Adafruit employees who work on the Circuit Python project!)

Hope you had a pleasant trip to Australia and surrounds and Jaycar is a great shop as it carries a vast array of equipment and gadgets to suit your needs but it can be pricey so good to do your research. Sadly its one of only a few shops still left that sell electronics as most do online only. Sending you best wishes for a speedy recovery from sunny Australia!

LED tester is cool, especially the fact that it has many resistance levels ready to go, the vice is really great, I need a proper working table and welding table, still got my late father's table vice. We also get that fatmax tape measure here in SA, That ziptie tool I think should be an essential tool. Circuit Python is Adafruit's fork of Micropython and its being ported to more platforms, and also has a serious development expansion base and user base. That flexble LED can make awesome automotive lights.

It's funny I bought one of those mega shields that I had to solder together and didn't end up using it. Those adafruit noodles are dirt cheap. I've got a ton of 300mm ones. You can cut them too. You'll find out haha
