Yes, Tae Kwon Do has leg kicks. They just don't get advertised much anymore, as the majority of modern TKD competitions emphasize high kicking. Old school Tae Kwon Do actually had more than a dozen low kicks that targeted body points "below the belt, " starting at targeting the ankles and working up to the groin and hip joints.

My prediction: if this is old school tkd then the tkd will win. Boxers usually have a hard time with kicks and old school tkd guys have decent punches (not as good as boxing) and have good footwork to go into kicking range.

honestly taekwondo is very good for street fights if your very good at it but lots of people who do taekwondo are just not as used to punches. but someone who did boxing and taekwondo would be a beast

Mixing both styles would be awesome since I'm trained in both of them before. Self trained, yes, but I can't argue with the combos, kicks and punches

I believe the Boxer was just more accustomed to taking punishment, he was taking some hits and had good enough footwork to evade some serious punishment. The TKD Guy didn't have any defence beside backing up, and when a hit got through he collapsed. Respect to both martial artists ofc!

TKD guy did really well, but after that first shot, he got gunshy. He probably should have tried to finish the Boxer off while he had the advantage, and while he kept up and even rocked the Boxer with boxing toward the end, he always tried to stay away and fight on his back foot, never capitalizing on critical moments, but that’s just backseat fighting, I recognize that it’s not that easy to see those moments and act on them in the heat of the moment

well the good thing is you can do a lot of "illegal" taekwondo kicks outside of the ring

Both were excellent fighters, imagine having both the boxing skills of the boxer and the kicking skills of the TKD guy. Unstoppable.

The tkd ITF guy wasted a ton of energy in not landing kicks. That's the main problem for me. And for the boxer, as long as he protects his head with his hands he would be right.
The tkd guy is trained for a point fighting (2 round of 2 minutes going at full speed with the goal of scoring points, not to ko your opponent). And the boxer is trained to last for 12 rounds of fighting in a ring (with the goal of knocking out your opponent).
The only way for the tkd guy to win is to do this with the boxer in a point Fighting match.
You have to choose your fights.

I'm not shocked by the ending of the fight. There is nothing wrong with Taekwondo as a martial art. It can be very effective. It's the training that is the issue. Most Taekwondo Dojang focus on forms. A boxer is always sparring and is pressure tested.

So Taekwondo is my background. What I saw here was a boxer who was taking time studying his target, and a TKD guy who was trying to capitalize. I saw where he got gassed and quit throwing kicks, I was happy to see that one knee shot, though I wish I saw some of TKDs more close quarters stuff such as knees and elbows, I also think Taekwondo as a whole needs to be pushed harder to fight other styles, there are several ufc fighters who use Taekwondo, but they train differently than in the Dojang. I was excited to learn about traditional style taekwondo which tries to emphasize some of the elements we don't often see though try finding a school of this style.

Boxing is much much better at short range. Mid range it depends on the fighter and location. Long range, tkd.

The punches thrown by the tkd guy looked like me thinking i can box after watching an12 minute boxing tutorial

When it comes to a fight, TKD is losing, cause the training system (also competitions) isn't a full-contact. They fight for "scores", not for the "result". Best score is to kick in a head, and if you hit, referees stop the fight, award you the points, then continue. So TKD guys aren't ready to place the light kick "for scoring" and get a full counter (especially to the head). Also you have to change a stance to block boxer's punches, and if you do so, most of your kicks are disabled by a frontal stance.
Even Taekwondo champions admit that they are stunned by head punches; they are simply not prepared for it.

First rounds of boxing usually is finding the range. Boxer was seemingly overwhelmed but figured out a gameplan

The thing about tkd is fighters feast on distance. But boxers have some of the best inside fighting of most martial arts.

You can really see the effects of tournament sparring in the tkd guy. Alot of light hits and playing around. Its rare to see any tkd people these days take a fight seriously from the beginning. If he was kicking with all his might, every time he missed his round kicks he would've done a nice 360 spin.
