As a first-year example of Martin's 14-fret D-28, this guitar carries its own historic importance, which was enhanced considerably when Norman Blake acquired it. Blake played this guitar extensively and it's pictured on the cover of Old and New, Blake and Rice (1), and Sleepy Eyed Joe.

A lot of these older guitars don't impress me that much, BUT that one is magical!! Sounds phenomenal!!

It's great when some of your pickers are flying through fiddle songs 9 million bps but this is probably the best one unveiling of what's in that guitar.

Kenny, that was spectacular! You're always good and play such sensitive licks and tones, but this version of Ashokan Farewell was one of the best I've ever heard. That drop D was perfection on Norman's old guitar. Beautiful, brother!

I think it's kind of a miracle that this cool old work horse made it this far.
It could have easily been lost stolen or just broken to bits. Great pickin! Great tune!

I was JUST thinking a couple days what a beautiful song this would be arranged for guitar on a Martin. Ashokan Farewell. Such a beautiful song. Thanks for this!

Nobody can pull tone out of an old guitar better than Kenny Smith!

might be that drop D tuning - and the player - or the Ax knew this tune before it was written.
