My Favorite Things is one of the first, if not the first, jazz CD I ever bought, many years ago as I discovered jazz.  I've always enjoyed it, but for some reason this particular tune never jumped out at me until recently.  My, what a beautiful version this is, capable of bringing tears of both joy and sadness when I listen carefully.  If this was the last thing I ever heard, I'd be ok with that.

I smile at 2:00. It never ceases to amuse me. Tyner’s sense of melody is ridiculous.

Only a heart as beautiful as the sound produced can create music like this.

Thank God for KTLA jazz and Chuck Niles.
My intro to jazz in '86 was listening to Chuck's radio program.
RIP !

I don’t care how happy I’m feeling, 4:32 to 4:55 always makes me cry, the combination of sounds reminds me of a bittersweet memory

Every second of this song is pure beauty and 100%, pure emotion--the soul of jazz.

It doesn’t get any better than that. Elvin’s brush work, hinting at double time but keeping the hi hat on 2 & 4 and then they do go into a double time feel for McCoy’s solo. And of course Coltrane’s lyrical playing. When I first bought this cd in my freshman year in college, I never thought I’d be able to sing along with Coltrane and all of the little trills or whatever. It’s hard not to sing along. It depends on my mood I guess.

Its sad when the headliners at a jazz festival don't even play jazz. Every once in a while I have to hear the real stuff. I've been listening to Bill Evans all evening and now am listening to the first Coltrane song I ever heard. It's magical.
