I also think that fanmade redesigns, even made for canon purposes, exist in other timelines (aka how I explain the clear miscommunication between the comics and show teams regarding Scootaloo’s aunts’ designs)
IN FACT!!! All AUs, INCLUDING grimdark and infection AUs might exist elsewhere in the MLP multiverse, similar to how that so long as a Marvel AU doesn’t touch the multiverse as a whole, it very well might be an alternate timeline.

I recently learned that Discovery owns the rights to season 5 and onward from gen 4. So hasbro may have been unable to use stuff from those seasons for gen 5 (we don't know for certian tho).
So my headcannon is that g5 IS an alternate universe, where up til start of season 5 things were the same but from then things became different. Honestly would explain a LOT of story elemts from g5 😂

I have a My little pony OC I made that is from a different reality from the friendship is magic one that is different from it. Her backstory I made considers her to be in a alternate reality from the official canon ones. I still need to finish adding details to the digital art of that oc I have been working on though.

I mean, one thing is that I can't imagine the regular equestrian universe and the human world being anything but linear in regards to time, otherwise how else would twilight measure the time she had left to re-enter the portal? If it closed on the third night when the moon reached it's peek, and that applied to either location, they had to be linear. Also not to mention sunset being able to communicate with pony twilight via the journal in real-time.
Which also makes me wonder, with that being said, with the g5 universe supposedly being the same as g4 but many years later with more advanced technology, how technilogically advanced is the human world by now, assuming it still exists? 🤔

I when I was about 6 or 7 my parents got me an mlp comic from the library and it was about alternate reality and In one the changelings ate a cute cat dimension I sobbed so hard and it lasted for hours until my parents hid

I've been considering TYT and MYM as parallel but separate timelines to each other in order to explain away any inconsistencies between them. (Would be awesome to see them converge in a special or something, kinda like Teen Titans GO vs Teen Titans did once. 🤩)

The different generations are all the same dimension and timeline, but centuries apart. Gen 4 is at least 1000 years after gen 3, after the ponies have moved a continent west. Celestia has changed a lot of the natural order of things, to keep the ponies more controlled and busy, too busy to look into their own histories deeply or why, in Celestia's rule, they suddenly have to discover their cutie marks, instead of being born with them. Humans, bushwoolies, zebras, and other pony-friends may still live to the East of the current map. Humans from our world have to enter ponyland by flying over a rainbow, g1, but in g4, the only natural-occurring rainbows would be over Everfree, which everyone is afraid of, thus preventing them from trying.

Ponyland-time is also like Narnia-time, flowing faster than Earth-time, so Megan and her siblings could spend up to a week in Ponyland without spending more than an afternoon on their ranch, thus their parents never questioning why they are gone so often and so long.

A lot of people say that equestria girls isn't cannon. YES IT IS. In the very last episode of the 9th season MLP: FIM you see when twilight crosses (in the last song) the screen a bunch of characters are there. Sunset Shimmer is there too.

Based on Tell Your Tale Season 2, I'm unsure as to whether to consider G1 an alternate universe, or canon to the mainline MLP timeline.

G5 is definitely an alternate timeline, since multiple things seem different. From grogar's bell and the rainbow light chest from g4 being in opaline's castle, opaline apparently knowing the royal sisters in a never mentioned alicorn civilization, how in g4 the orincesses never saw a baby alicorn, but in g5 supposedly they lived in an alicorn civilization as fillies, etc. the big difference here i believe is that in g4 the royal sisters were probably nicer to others around them, or potentially did something that led to their memories of their home being erased along with sealing the alickrn civilization off from the rest of the world to prevent any alicorns from Equestria getting in or ones from in the civilization ever escaping to attempt to take over the world. Either way, with them either being nice and it preventing that resentment from forming or the alicorn civilization being sealed away which prevented opaline coming after them, g4 avoided opaline entirely, while in the g5 timeline either them being mean was the only difference or the barrier sealing the alicorn civilization never was made or just git compromised and opaline escaped to take her revenge, either way that one difference is tied into the ripple effects of something to do with that civilization where Celestia and Luna supposedly originally came from

In my opinion though g5 looks more like an alternative timeline since in the end of G4 Twilight was big and the main 6 was a lot older in G5 it shows us Twilight when she was somewhere at the start of being princess of friendship which doesn't make sense as we never saw Twilight record anything at that time so I consider it an alternative reality from each other
