The main problem is... who were the heroes we are supposed to follow for phases four and five? The consistent faces for the brand? There weren't any. Its like all of a sudden Marvel wanted to sell all their movies and shows on the MCU brand first and foremost. The star of the movie or show didn't seem to matter as much. And it was quantity over quality more so than phases 1 through 3.

I think another reason for the decline that absolutely NO ONE talks about is in 2019/20, Feige got promoted from president of the studio to president of all of Marvel. Hence he was stretched even more thin beyond the bloated slate.

Personally for me it’s probably more over saturation which is a problem for the mcu as a whole and focusing on the tv shows 24/7 was such a bad idea from the very start in my opinion.

Among many problems, one of Marvel studios’ issues is they didn’t learn from history. If you just look historically at Marvel and DC comic sales they always hit pretty substantial declines when they start “fiddling around” with their status quo. Killing off A and often times B Listers spikes sales initially primarily for the collection aspect and spectacle of a character death, but that is quickly followed by grumbling fandom wanting that character back. If they try to replace that character with a new alter ego or a similar variation of that character, it universally will eventually draw ire from the fanbase.

All of those reasons PLUS the Marvel "Parliament" aka executives who are completely detached from reality and the fandom meddling their fingers into the saga, instead of trusting good directors and writers to make the stories we WANT to see, and sure, you can make it as varied and diverse in terms of characters, but at least have it all COHESIVE.

I think the biggest reason for the decline isnt even just that the movies are worse because during the first 3 phases there were bad movies, its that the formula they use hasnt changed. The cracks in the armor have broken because in reality most mcu films are more like long episodes in a series and it worked because we new what the series finale would be and were okay with filler, but most mcu films in reality dont have a lot of substance to them. and no one knowing where it is going its hard to be invested in anything new.

I wouldn't say all of it is bad, some the stuff post endgame was really good like loki, shang chi, xmen, Deadpool and no way home. The run they had was historic it's hard to repeat a run like that for any franchise.

I think the main problem is what plagues most franchises nowadays. The problem is that they need to remember that good stories end. That's all. That is probably the biggest issue when it comes to Marvel, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Carribbean, etc.. These executives had opportunities to end the story on a high note, but they discovered that there is a ton of money in continuing the story past its natural end point. Unfortunately, since the characters and story has nowhere to go, they have to make stuff up and break down fully developed characters and make them regress in order to make a story work.

I’ve been watching videos from the plus channel for about a year now, and I learned today I was never even subscribed (fixed that!), it was just always on my Home page and bc I’m subscribed to the main channel I never noticed

Spread too thin to me is probably the main thing, i think the mcu could have still been good if they kept at the same pace they use to, they did soo much too soon so its not surprising most projects quality would go down. And i know they are very aware of that by now

I agree. It felt like they were floundering - directionless. Especially when they had to pivot when Jonathan Majors had to be replaced as the Big Bad Evil Guy.

Short answer, nothing lasts forever. Marvel wasn't going to have perfect RT scores in perpetuity. You can get into the minutia of "Why?" But the real question was always "When?" Thank God shyt didn't go sideways until after End Game. Imagine the pandemic, writers strike and Josh Brolin caught an assault case right before they started filming Avengers 3 & 4?

Agatha was actually unique, dark, & fun imo... also didn't hate Marvels or She Hulk though so I'm probably an idiot

The only thing that’s part of the MCU’s (somewhat) decline is not about the audience or these toxic so-called “fandoms, ” I think the issue was the problem with their visual effects. I don’t know how much money they spent on these effects since Variety wrote an expose on the people that aren’t getting paid while working on an MCU movie. But if I were Kevin Feige, I should layoff a couple of people saying: “I’m going to let you go. This VFX issue is too much money to cover.”

I think another problem has been that the universe doesn’t feel connected anymore. The reason Phase 1 worked so well was that we could do all these origin stories but the universe came together in The Avengers. After that our characters could split back off and do their own things but they always came back together and their solo adventures affected the connected ones. Age of Ultron followed up on SHIELD’s fall in Cap’s film and Thor learning of the Infinity Stones in his.

Now look at now. Marvel is still doing all these origin stories but they never matter to the larger story. If we think about the original plan of Kang going into Avengers 5 only the Ant-Man crew knew of Kang’s existence and Spider-Man and Doctor Strange interacted with the Multiverse. While in the Infinity Saga while only Thor, Hulk, and the Guardians knew about Thanos everyone else had an interaction with at least one Infinity Stone.

The MCU feels like nothing happens of matter because A. Half the characters introduced we never see again and B. None of the stories build up to anything and so feel irrelevant.

We’re about to end this saga and we have only followed up on like 4 post credit teases.

They prioritised quantity over quality.

Honestly my main problem with the MCU right now is that nothing is really importat, someone dies? you can bring a clone from another timeline, we need a suit? nanotech can give you 10 new suits. A character do something stupid out of character? we ignore it in the next movie, and the list go and go again...

So many things but they needed a decade off after Endgame.

Marvel has had some decent bangers since End Game but most of the films have fallen flat. I think the combination of how the stakes can’t really get any higher than End Game, the over saturation of content to keep up with, lack of meaningful new character development, and being money hungry instead of story focused has been the perfect recipe for MCU’s downfall. 😂
