God’s Mercy Makes Jonah Angry.

When Jonah said sorry to God, God gave Jonah a second chance.
Jonah went to Nineveh and preached the message God gave him.
The people said sorry to God for their sins.
They dressed in sackcloth—an itchy fabric, stopped eating and drinking, and begged God for mercy.
God showed them mercy and did not punish them.
But Jonah was not happy. He was angry.
##
God asked Jonah, “Is it right that you are angry?”
Jonah went and made himself a shelter outside the city.
It was very hot.
God made a plant grow and give shade for Jonah.
Jonah was happy that the plant made him cooler.
##
The next night, God sent a worm to chew the plant and it died.
Jonah was so hot without the shade.
Jonah was angry with God.
God asked Jonah, “Is it right that you should be so angry that the plant died?”
Jonah said “Yes, it’s right I should be angry. I am so very angry.”
God said, “You did not grow the plant or water it. But you are very angry it died because you cared about it.”
##
God asked Jonah, “Do you not think that I should care more about the people of this huge city of Nineveh than you do about the plant?”
“Nineveh has so many people, children, and animals. I made them all, and care about them.”
Jonah was confused.
He still didn’t understand why God spared the people of Nineveh.
Jonah was shown mercy, but he didn’t want his enemies to be treated the same.
