I grew up in London and in the school playground this was only the end of the first round! We usually played with 5 metal jacks (or you'd never finish a game during break), but sometimes did 10 at lunchtime. After this initial round was completed (as shown in the video) you progressed to further ball skills. i.e. Double bounce (self-explanatory), round-the-world (making a circle motion around the ball and then catching it), hand clap (throw ball-clap hands-pick up jack(s) and then catch the ball), double-tap (grab the jacks and rap the ground twice rapidly with the same hand before catching the ball after a single bounce) no bounce at all (catching it before it hit the ground - so no bounce) If you got through all those rounds you started again and played with your off-hand. This happened rarely because lunch breaks were not that long - thankfully!

Aloha we're social distancing because of Coronavirus -- Now that we're all stuck at home thought I'd show my two grandkids what we used to play when we had no computers, plastic games, actions toys etc. I had to brush up on the rules so watched your video. Thanks for the tutorial.

Even in this modern day I'm glad my children know the old school games. My teens aren't glued to their phones because they can entertain themselves in ways like this🎉🎉🎉🎉

We played where touching other jacks not being picked up was a foul and after tens came around the world in which you had to pick up the jack and circle around the ball before catching the ball. It was quite exciting! Also there was double bounce and triple bounce ect. Ect. If the bounce number was off it was a foul as well.

I remember, while i was still in the philippines, my parents would restrict me from playing this game because they said the game was for girls only or the game will turn you into a girl.

When I played jacks back in the days, we used different rules, I think it's only ONE hand allowed, and no touching other jacks on the ground. Also we're allowed to pick multiple times in one ball throw, and there is a name for that, it feels good for showing up how fast we can manage to do that. And the jacks look different, mine were shaped like number 2 or S. Oh and it's also considered as a girl's game in Indonesia lol.

What’s stopping someone from just launching the ball as far into the air as they can?

I was a sissy in the 70s playing jacks. Not sure what the problem was with boys playing jacks at the time but I enjoyed it with my half-sisters. Terry Jacks had a huge hit then too!

This game is super popular in the Caribbean. I used to play this when I was in Jamaica in 4th and 5th grade all the time at school

I remember playing this game when I was little. It was fun. But now I don’t think people play this game no more. No one ever talks about it

My daddy taught me how to play Jacks, back in the 70s...but, I didn't remember about not having jacks touching & having to re-toss. Thank you, for this video!! I am, now, showing this video to my own grandson.
