Dawes: In the Round - Performing 'Misadventures of Doomscroller'

I think we’re overeager to share this music. So when it came time to make a music video, we thought that instead of having me lip sync to the studio recording while pretending I’m a cab driver or something, let’s just play our whole album live in one night in a beautiful studio and film it. Give people a chance to hear what these songs sound like live before they even hear the studio versions. Give the songs a second dimension before we’ve even given them a first. Here’s hoping.

Starring Mike Hitchcock

Taylor Goldsmith – guitar, primary vocal
Wylie Gelber – handmade bass
Griffin Goldsmith – drums, percussion, background vocals
Lee Pardini – piano, organ, synthesizers, clavinet, Wurlitzer, guitar, background vocals

Additional musicians:
Trevor Menear – guitar
Luis Conte – percussion
Jonathan Wilson – second drum kit & percussion on “Ghost In The Machine”
Mike Viola – extra vocals on “Comes In Waves”

Film Crew
Caitlin Gerard - producer / director
Vince Patin - DP
Robin Gonsalves - editor
Jackie Bryan - 2nd camera op
Arjay Ancheta - gaffer
Brandon Garmen - key grip
Jesse Mejia - grip

The growth of this band - never did I think this is what they would become when I discovered them through a Bing live set 10 or so years ago. And yet it feels so natural that this is what they’ve developed into. Incredible. This is really special.

I'll be the first to say it ... this is their best album to date.

Dawes first caught my ear a few years ago when, by chance, I heard "Feed the Fire" on the radio, driving through Tel Aviv. As a 61-year old musician who grew up in the golden age of rock, from soft-spoken singer-songwriters to blues-driven guitar gods and beyond, it's rare that "newer" bands catch my ear and emotions with the force that Dawes has. I've since become an avid fan and continue to be in awe of their uncompromising musicianship, song craftsmanship, engrossing storytelling, gorgeous vocal palette and their ability to take catchy pop song formats s and stretch them naturally into vehicles for improvisation. This latest set is probably the most impressive in their evolution as a band. It's kind of like a new millennium version of the Eagles meets the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band with a touch of Umphrey's McGee thrown in for good measure . Please come and play in Israel, guys...

What is this? How can a band already so awesome break through the thin-veiled facade of Americana rock, and suddenly own what has become the true amalgamation of all of the best aspects of the American music experience? I mean… the jazz breaks, the harmonies, the stops, the true-to-sound style they’ve grown into… I am in awe of the songwriting, the lyricism, and the dedication to the quality of each song in great detail. Keep it up. No other bands are doing what you do to this level.

Taylor Goldsmith is a Master at his craft. Dawes is the best band in the last 10 years hands down.

A live performance of an entire album 2 months before it's out? Wow.

I mean, this is all amazing and I can't wait to own this and see the tour, but HOLY CRAP, how good is Lee Pardini. Just a mindbending performance.

Simply the best band. Love how the single is just an 8 minute bop. Only Dawes could retain the listeners interest for that long. Somehow they keep sounding better and better and slightly reinventing themselves while building on previous work. Legends.

Let me just say this. As a fan of Dawes for years, and also a die hard Dead Head… this is what I’ve been waiting for. So special. Such an evolution for the band. Phil definitely rubbed off on you guys. From all the fans, thank you, thank you, thank you. Love

Studio is solid, but this is definitive. I listened on repeat Mother’s Day weekend and fell in love. So glad they made this available again.

Immense musicality. The most cohesive, authentic, inspired, emotional music I have heard in a long time.

Well... I just thought I was overly obsessed with Dawes these last 6 years. OMG! This is so beyond phenomenal! The jazzyness, the soulfulness, I'm blown away.

I'm dead. I'm in heaven. The Dawes. Wow. This might be right up there with my favorite "All Your Favorite Bands".

Let me also say as a musician how damn hard it can be these days to find new music that inspires. This absolutely does!
