I’m playing a ton of Lost Ark, and it’s “pretty good”. It activates the correct chemicals in my brain to keep playing. It also has many nope out moments that keep tempting me to stop.

2nd most played game in korea, 2nd most played game in steam history. I can see if you might not want to try it right away to see what happens in a couple days. But give respect to a game thats not ff14 and guild wars 2 LOL

Of course people hop into new MMOs when they launch, that's the best time to play. Everyone starts at the same point and you get to experience things fresh without everyone already knowing everything, with thousands of people progressing at the same level.

The MMO lifecycle and tribalism is truly strange to me, I've played about half a dozen or so MMOs with massive dedication and thousands of hours each, I've also played maybe another half a dozen with a light touch but out of all of those MMOs I've NEVER disliked any of them, I enjoyed them all, had fun, then moved on when something else attracted me more. I dunno, either I'm very lucky or I just don't get tangled up in games I don't like!

I mean, it's not really that hard to do a couple of hours research into an MMO to get a good handle on it before you start and be able to sniff out the good and bad parts of each. Plus, too many people are looking for the perfect MMO; every (decent) MMO is 70-80% good stuff with a smearing of 20-30% bad stuff and it's just a matter of whether the particular bias suits your tastes. I love PVP in MMOs but that doesn't stop me playing FF14 even though their PVP is terrible.

Damn so many haters coming out, like sure you don’t have to like the game but y’all seem too invested into it despite not even playing it, just because something is popular doesn’t automatically mean you have to like it (or don’t) or be jealous that it’s having success, why do people feel the need to bash on a game based on it’s popularity. Why do you feel the need to express your anger towards it, why is it hard to accept that other people can and will enjoy different games than you. But after all the game just needs thousands of players to survive, which right now it has way more than that. In case you were hoping it’d be a dead game, it won’t.. maybe in a year or two but the player-base that stuck with it would have gotten their time’s worth by then.

The thing about lost ark is that the developers are super cool. They've shown they care and listen to the players. The director straight up said he reads through the subreddit and other social media. They've actively made changes to benefit players such as taking a 17% revenue cut in order to make the game more free to play friendly.

Lost ark has achieved what no other MMO has for me... It's fun to play. There are no excuses for "oh yeah this part feels bad but its supposed to stop whining" like with Runescape, WoW, FFXIV ect. It doesn't have to justify itself to me to be fun, it just IS

It is the new MMO king, though.
It's the _second most played_ *game* in Korea - which has a rich gaming culture; only behind League - which is literally the most successful game ever.
I knew the second it would release in the West it would immediately jump to the top. And it did.
And unlike New World (which, personally, never looked interesting to me) people didn't just play beta/on release because of hype and then immediately dropped it because it was garbage - with LA it's the opposite.
Tons of issues, fucked up release schedules that lead to p2w issues etc - yet the activity is still extremely high.
Now the Devs have quickly addressed the issues and are starting to make adjustments to the release schedule, are actively working on the honing issues, working on making bots useless and so on.
Playerbase is happy with quick response and with Devs admitting that they made mistakes, thus it's maintaining player retention and I wouldn't be surprised to see players that had quit coming back and new players coming in, due to the p2w issues getting addressed.

Remember: even with all the issues that have plagued Lost Ark in the first month, it's still the most active MMO right now. And this is only the very beginning.

On top of that, it even has legitimate E-Sports potential as there have already been successful OGN tournaments in Korea etc.

Lost Ark has already been the most successful MMO for a while in the countries that had servers, it is the most active MMO currently in the West and I don't see that changing for a while. I'd be surprised if it didn't set itself apart at the top more and more as time goes on, tbh.

My favourite mmo is still ESO. But there's no denying: Lost Ark will be one of the biggest _games_ on the market for the foreseeable future.

Not only isn't it a new MMO KING.
It's also shite for players in BE/NL who have to risk they're steam account getting banned by using VPN shit to be able to play the game (if it works, cause it's no guarantee.)
Or even try to make a dummy steam account + VPN and hope it works that way. (it didn't work for me in both cases)
Yes agreed it looks and sounds all great and hype here and there... But if they really want to include BE/NL gamers they only have to do something bout lootboxes or even
make it so, that we can play without it. There are plenty of other games with lootboxes we do can play who did find a workaround for it which do have a P2W issue.
If it ain't P2W, then they can fix this minor issue also.
