These are my notes
Formal/uniform region is an area defined by facts.(exists) Something similar throughout the whole thing. Examples include climate, counties, citys. Can't argue about it, like see where city or country is.
Functional Regions have a center point or node, it'll impact the surrounding area. Examples: Water tower dispersal area, pizza sending stuff to people. Cell Phone coverage.
Perceptual/vernacular, not a fact. Different opinions because its not DEFINED. People think of it. People saying pop, soda, coke. The south, the midwest. People can dispute it.

my notes if anyone needs some help:

Regions
What is a vernacular region? Functional region? Formal region? All of those need to be known.
Formal Region
Also known as a uniform region, it’s a geographical area which is defined by a certain thing which is uniform across the entire region. Think of things that are, well, uniform; climates, religions, language, etc., and even things like countries and cities; think of things that are DEFINED, AKA FACT!
Ex: French-Speaking parts of Canada.
Functional Region
Also known as a nodal region, it’s a region with a central area that impacts all of the surrounding area. Important to note that it is oftentimes connected via transportation, and some examples can include utilities, such as water towers (water) which will pump to the surrounding area and have an effect on the space. More things include airports, where travel comes from that airport and disperses throughout, power or gas lines, etc.
An even simpler example is pizza delivery, where they deliver within a certain radius, making that radius the functional region; it functions around something, in this case the area which they’ll deliver to.
Vernacular Region
Also known as a perceptual region, it’s a region which is based on opinions, and differs from person to person; it is NOT set by facts like the other regions. Given example is the relative location, in the sense where there can be things such as where the rich versus the poor live.
Ex: People saying “pop”, “coke”, “soda”, etc., or “The South” versus “The Midwest”; can be disputed.

4:15 would this mean that vernacular regions are oftentimes associated with relative location? in the sense that you have a general idea on where they are, but not something that is set in stone?

This is all exactly from what I recall as a student ages ago when I laughed so hard I fell off my dinosaur... on that note my work lately is causing a headache daily on this topic so I'd like some opinions on the matter.

Instead of using the acronym APAC for a report that covers ISO Codes: CN IN JP KR SG TH TW AU NZ HK, they decided to use this : AMEA (Asia, Middle East, Africa).

Is that correct, or should it be APAC still? (Which is what suggested.

What about ICEMEA or EMEA?

Basically, they can't even get me a list

Would agricultural areas be considered a functional or a formal region? Like looking at which types of produce are primarily grown in your area?
