Imagine if Tarantino had a channel where he reviews movies. 😌

"No matter how good you are, there's always Scorcese" is now my new motto.

I had heard that Joker drew heavily from this movie. I liked Joker well enough, but when I watched this it was the difference between fine/good and incredible. Specifically the scene that did it for me was when Joker is told he won't get his meds because "the system doesn't care about people like us" (or something to that effect). Scorsese doesn't need that scene. You just know by the mood, the ambiance, the music, the cinematography that there's no help to be had in that environment, and Travis is utter and irredeemably alone. This movie is the fundamental "show, don't tell".

Travis does shoot a black man. He shoots the robber in the bodega.

Taxi Driver really captures the ATMOSPHERE of New York in the '70s, with its available light cinematography and jazzy Hermann score.

chilling in the comment section because the repeating footage is driving me insane lol

“Travis doesn’t shoot any black people”
Literally the first person he kills in the movie is a black guy.

Can we all just talk about how fascinatingly beautiful De Niro was in this movie?

I am addicted to the background score I can’t go on a single day without listening to it . Bernard Herman was a legendary composer . Paired with Scorsese’s direction and De Niro’s acting makes this one of the best movies of the 20 th century .

I watched this movie while I lived alone and all my free time other than being alone was working. I’m not sure if I was paranoid and lonely like Travis or this movie brought these emotions out in me.

One of my favorite scenes was when Travis is playing with his guns, and the sounds of kids playing and giggling outside his apartment can be heard, which would otherwise be a normal occurrence in a populated area, but it's obviously added to the film to highlight Travis' attitude towards his newly acquired firearms.

I disagree that Travis was racist, he was disgusted by humanity in general.

My favourite moment in all of cinema—and I have no idea why—is four seconds in length and it’s when Travis first speaks to Betsy at her desk at the campaign headquarters, when he waves his hand across her desk as he says, “I see all these phones and all this stuff on your desk. It means nothing.” That shot, his hand as it waves across the desk, takes my breath away every time I watch it. I don’t know why it has such a magical effect on me.
