These seem to be more convenient than Collar Stays which require a collar designed for those (which aren't that many, Especially in Europe).

Is it suitable if you're wearing a tie or does it make it harder to make a good knot without wrinkling the shirt collar?

I guess it would be useful if you're in the habit of wearing non-button down collars without a tie, open neck style. I've also seen some guys put little magnets under their shirt that snap to their collar stays and hold them in place.



Personally, my admittedly very conservative view is that non-button down collars MUST be worn with a tie. If you want to go open-neck, then the button-down collar is the optimal choice, since it supports itself. You can go even further and add extra canvas structuring to the shirt placket so it stands up better (Proper Cloth MTM can do this and I really like it), or you can go for maximum placket/collar structuring with a one piece Cooper collar (Spier and MacKay and Collaro MTM have good ones).



I think of my shirts in 3 categories: tie-only non-button down business shirts, tie-optional button downs (mostly OCBDs), and no-tie casual shirts with button down Cooper collars.

Hmm, I 3D printed these, never thought they were for sale. I just copied the cardboard version from my Spier & Mackay shirt and now have like 5 sitting in my closet.
