Zoro was the first person in this story to accept Luffy as his captain. He could easily be a leader himself, but he’s always respected Luffy’s position and even reminds him what it means to be a captain and the importance of making decisions. Zoro is one of my favorite characters because he personifies respect and loyalty

I also like how Sanji was the one to kick Luffy when Luffy suggested Usopp leave the crew, cause we know how important his found family is to him 😭

ussop is, to this day, the only one they had to have this conversation about. nami, robin, and even sanji have all left the crew as well, but for them, their reasons were understandable. they left either to protect the crew, or because they had personal trauma they were dealing with. sanji was the one who came closest to actually disrespecting his captain, but unlike ussop, he didn't have to be coerced into apologizing. zoro shows why he's the right hand man here. he's willing to be seen as the bad guy to make luffy understand that there are limits even to what he can accept from his crew.

I very much believe it goes deeper than that.
I firmly believe they see each other as equal, but also opposites. They respect each other, but they can't stand each other as well.
That's why I believe when Luffy said he's going to save Sanji, Zoro said that it's a dumb idea. Because he understood that Sanji had a reason for that, and he agreed with his judgement that crew can't really handle two Yonko at once.

Remember, although they disagree constantly, they do disagree mostly on small, petty and unimportant stuff. But when push comes to shove, they usually have pretty similar opinions on things.
That's why I believe they're equal, and why they both are wings of pirate King

I actually don’t think Sanji was the only one who agreed with Zoro. They all knew he was right, they just didn’t want to risk losing a friend.

Zoro is a swordsman and value honor. even when he fought Monet in Punk Hazard, he defeated her without really attacking her physically. While Luffy values the bond he have with his family and friends. Which is why he went to save Ace even without his crew. Those arc, for me, solidify Zoro as the first mate, and he made Luffy realise that as a captain, he need to set a standard as there are people behind him who follows him to achieve his goal. Oh, and there's still water that comes out from my eyes whenever I watch Going Merry's farewell to the crew. Don't know why, don't want to explain, just watch it all.
