It is kinda odd that in the series Mayuri is considered a good guy, when he is basically comperable to Mengele and will probably roast in the depths of hell after he dies. It's like all the details about him from his first fight with Ishida are forgotten.
An engaging character for sure. But not really a good person.

EDIT:
I am amazed how many people in the comments can excuse murdering innocent people, torture and in general being a monster, just because a character is on the side of the protagonist, is doing their job or/and is just cool. There is nothing wrong in enjoying an evil character, but trying to excuse their obviously evil deeds is absurd, especially when they are inexcusable.
