That PiP mode is so next level! That is a true differentiator.

Also, Elementary's Finder... er, um... file manager has column view! You ought to show that in a future video, and yeah, I think Elementary is deserving of more coverage. Thanks

I have been a Linux user since 2009 a ND I have to say it is always a joy going back to elementary os. The simplicity is what I love. Never had any real issues with it and I appreciate you doing this video on the latest version. Thanks!!! 😀

the picture in picture (pip) is an awesome idea. unlike in other apps, platforms and devices where a pip is only for video, love that you can put other stuff in a separate picture. sometimes you don’t want to switch desktops or manage windows. it lets you see enough info when you need it while focusing on a main window.

PiP is so valuable, I use all the time not only for videos but for texts, keeping tabs on terminal etc.
Nice review of elemenray. The 5.1 is getting better and better.

Currently running Vanilla Ubuntu on my VM host system, but seriously considering reloading with Elementary based on this video. Thanks for sharing this. I had no idea Elementary was this great.

I used to have eOS. Loved it after I got my Aptana notifications back for my top panel. Then with the updates I was spending an hour each week reverting my customizations. I moved onto KDE after about 9 months on eOS. Just was frustrating each week to have to update my customizations.

Vivaldi browser, as of version 2.11, have done some recent updates to their pip as well. It's worth taking a look at Vivaldi.

Also, take a look at Clear Linux ... light weight and fast.

The problem with elementary (former user here) is that they update components at a glacial pace so if you like you to stay up to date, and I'm not talking about going nuts with a rolling release even, just staying relatively current, this distro is going to drive you nuts. I couldn't take it anymore and did some distro hopping and landed on KDE Neon. It is the way.

Might give it a shot. It's gonna have a hard time competing with my favorite distro kubuntu but we'll see.

you can do with ancient software in windows called OnTopReplica, but this is nicer flow as that software is quite old and dropped from development

I also have a question. I tried ElementaryOS about three years ago, but it couldn't handle my 4K monitor then. Does it handle high dpi monitors better now?

Hi Don,
Can you provide some battery performance improvement tips for linux.
I'm using Ubuntu Mate and I notice battery dropping instantly from 28 to 7%. Don't know what's wrong.
I don't think battery saver apps are useful in linux as they themself consume considerable power

the battery thing is in gnome and xfce

Everytime I try elementary, I try to get Gmail up and running on Geary and/or the stock mail app. Never works even though user name and password are correct. Deal breaker 😕

I installed tribler on it and it broke the installer. Software updater hangs to infinity. Not there yet...pretty but useless to me.

what kind of linux has best sw support, as I understand then OS-es that are based of nothing should be better. Is there any logic behind that?
