What It's Like to be a New Nurse

I remember what it was like when I was walking into a hospital for my first shift as a new nurse. It was intimidating and I wish someone had made a video about what to expect. So I thought I would make the video I always wanted on what it's like to be a new nurse. I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Kati. I'm starting my nursing degree at uni (Australia) next year. I am nearly 47 and actually started my degree when I was 18 but dropped out as I was not mature enough and overwhelmed by lots going on at the time.
Your videos and podcasts are not only a phenomenal teaching tool but also give confidence and reassurance to those of us who are still unsure and frankly petrified about becoming a nurse.
I can't wait to have you along on my journey.
Thank you for all you do.

I graduate this spring and am beginning to feel the panic of actually hitting the floor as a nurse. This was so helpful! Thank you!

Thank you for saying this! I'm in my 3rd week in the Respiratory ICU as a new grad and can relate to these feelings! So overwhelming and feeling like I'll never be able to get all of the tasks done on time.

I appreciate your content so much! I’m finishing up my 2nd semester of nursing school, & clinicals can be truly intimidating if you allow yourself to compare how much you don’t know to how much the nurses know. I love that you reminded us to focus on “Am I better nurse now that I was before this shift began?” I will take that with me as I continue this rewarding journey. I’ve subscribed to your channel and shares you with my study group. I look forward to more words of wisdom from you. Thank you for your help! Best wishes as you continue your journey!

I really think I would enjoy the patient advocate aspect of nursing I’m just nervous I wouldn’t be able to think fast enough in a bad situation

She has a sense of humor, "she had man hands". I already love her. First semester nursing student. Any info helps especially since I have no medical experience.

Nurses have a very difficult job, how do you guys deprive sleep and still clearly focus and juggle all the patient information and procedures in your head? I was observing the chemo therapy nurses at Sloan Kettering, and they have to keep so much in their head. I would lose it all from my sleep issues, and coffee not helping, but I’m more in the complimentary therapy. I do physical therapy assisting
