Further down the canal and wide enough for one boat, and with a towpath all the way through, the Whitehouse canal tunnel lies between Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Chirk, and stretches 574 feet long and was completed between 1795 and 1802. It was designed again by Thomas Telford and William Jessop. Continuing along the canal, there was a second tunnel, this time 1381 feet long, and again wide enough for only one vessel. It is necessary to wear a head torch, not only to see where you are going, but to allow oncoming boats to know that you are there.

The kayaking trip culminated at Chirk Aqueduct, a 70 foot high and 710 feet long navigable aqueduct that carries the Canal across the Ceiriog Valley near Chirk, on one side of the aqueduct is Wales and on the other is England, spanning the two countries. A return paddle back to the camp site, Abbey Farm, swiftly followed by a trek to a medieval Castle, Castell Dinas Brân, which occupies a prominent hilltop site above the town of Llangollen. The presently visible stone castle was built in the 1260s by Gruffydd Maelor II, a prince of Powys Fadog, on the site of several earlier structures, including an Iron Age hillfort.
