Oh god. This is bringing back so many memories of arguing with my friends over the rules. I don't think I'll ever forget the day where Andrew slammed a Mirror Force down from his hand when I was about to hit him with a direct attack from my Gaia TFK.

"You have to set the trap card first and it can't be played until the next turn!"

"Nope. You activated my trap card's effect. All of your monsters are destroyed."

Even after turning to the section in the rulebook, this sunuvabeech refused to accept that he was wrong and had lost the duel. THEN got his sister and another friend to agree with him because that's how they always played.

Fuck you, Andrew. You lost that duel.

Contrary to popular belief, you CANNOT send your opponent to the shadow realm.

People online: "Old school Yu-Gi-Oh wasn't degenerate and allowed both players to play"

Me: *'Nam flashbacks of getting Yata Locked during recess at school by that kid who went to tournaments*

Face-up defense position?

I'm more of a Forbidden Memories man myself: *sets monster in face-down attack position*

Yu-Gi-Oh players: Having your opponent draw 2 cards from your card effects is bad.

Uno players: !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

in my neighborhood a "shadow game" meant that the winner could pick any 1 card from the other persons deck and keep it.

Back when I was growing up, I didn't realize that tribute summoning required you to tribute a monster card; I thought you could tribute magic and trap cards too.

Turns out I was just a True Draco player way ahead of their time.

Honestly, what remains of my 8-year-old self is still pretty rattled that Time Wizard's effect doesn't age Baby Dragon into Thousand Dragon like it did for Joey in the anime.
You just Fusion Summon the old bastard.

So you're trying to tell me there are people in the world who don't follow uno on every social media?

When i was a kid, i was playing yu-gi-oh against one of my friends. He had a lot of good cards like blue-eyes and those sphinx monsters from anubis. I also had some good cards at that time, relinquished, black luster soldier and red eyes. It was all going fine until he used polymarization and he fused a blue eyes white dragon with luster dragon and put them on eachother and he said his monster had 4900 atk now. I explained that it did not work like that and he did not wanna believe me.

Imagine playing uno without stacking +2s

Actually a lot of the rule differences in the anime stem from it being based on the manga which was made without the actual card game existing so especially up to duel city the issue of balancing the stuff wasn't even thought about

Uno is just clarifying the rules before the next regional.

There is a point of minor correction: people might be getting confused with the original _OCG_ rules where tributing for high level monsters was not in the game. This was changed within a few months (particularly because cards like Blue-Eyes were extremely overpowered) when the Expert Rules came out, and the TCG has always followed the Expert Rules and never the Original Rules, so it's possible that some people might get confused and think that's also been the case in the TCG.

The only weird thing our elementary school did was we treated trap cards like spell cards, we basically didn't know we couldn't just activate them from our hand on our turn. Also MST negating lol.
