Add Samsung SmartThings to Home Assistant (HOW-TO)

Some people have a hard time choosing between Home Assistant and SmartThings as their main Smart Home hub. But I will say why don't you have them both working at the same time? I will show you how to do that in this video.

I will integrate the #Samsung #SmartThings hub and #HomeAssistant, so every device connected to the SmartThings will be also visible and controllable by Home Assistant.

You may wonder why I'm doing this? Why I don't just use Home Assistant or SmartThings only? And the simple reason is that I want to easily add Zigbee and Z-wave devices to my Home Assistant and SmartThings will greatly help me with that.

I know that there are some Zigbee and Z-wave dongles out there that I could use and they are working locally, but as far as I know their support is not as good as with the SmartThings and they are almost the same price as the v3 hub. So I decided to give the Home Assistant and Samsung SmartThing v3 a try.

I love home assistant but I need zigbee and zwave and I installed home assistant on virtual machine, and that virtual machine is on the ground floor. And all my setup is at first floor. And I think I can put the smartthings at first floor to interact with all zigbee and zwave devices and interact the server from the ground floor.

E.g. I have a SmartTag from Samsung. In my SmartThings-App I can see the last known location of it (or when I pressed its button).
How can I get this informations from the loggs to see its location on the HomeAssistant-Map (like with my smartphone)?
(Or how can I trigger an automation when I press the button of the SmartTag?)

Hi All
I'm new to Home Assistant and have been struggling to set up the Smartthings integration for the last few hours. (Many hours!) I've discovered that the url in the Home Assistant Cloud (Nabu Casa) does not match the url I'm presented with when I try to configure the Smartthings Integration in 'Integrations'. Is this the issue and if so how do I correct it?

Thanks again Kiril! I was able to monitor my smart things virtual switches in Home Assistant! One recipe I have uses a virtual switch to indicate when I have received USPS mail via scans in my gmail account. Now I can see that status in HA and I may do something more with it now it's visible (right now I just use ST to play an audio clip). Thanks!

Thanks for this video! Question: This seems to be about integrating ST within HA, that is, the devices would still be connect via that Smartthings cloud service. I want to use the smartthing door and motion sensors directly without ST cloud, locally. I have a Nortec Z-wave, Zigbee dongle (and at least one device was found and integrated). Can I use that dongle control the ST door and motion sensor devices without the ST cloud, and control directly?

To save everyone's time:
If you don't want to/aren't able to configure your router to port forward and allow external web access, you can't do this.
I wasted a few minutes following instructions until I got told to watch another video to do this, but this isn't an option for me.
(Unless of course you want to pay monthly, but in that case just use IFTTT)

Smartthings is not available as a default integration when using Home Assistant installed in a Docker container. Is there something we can just do in configuration.yaml?

Hi, right now I am trying to connect SmartThings with Home Assistant. I have been with smartthings for 5 or 6 years. I’m new to Home Assistant and Linux. When I go to Add Integration and choose ST I get “ Config flow could not be loaded”. I’ve already got the token and set up Nablus Casa. I’m thinking that maybe the integration no longer works? Do you have any ideas for me? Thank you!

This is why I despise HA. I set up SSL and confirmed it's working and smartthings still says it's still not configured properly when it most definitely is. What a waste of time HA is.
