It's invaluable for a struggled graduate student🥲 I also have a related question and really appreciate if there's any guidance. If the independent variable simultaneously induces other means of compensation, for example, if country A adopts a trade policy against country B that restricts country B's exports, but country B increases its exports to other countries (which is largely due to country A's restrictive policy), this biases the real-world impact of country A's policy (e.g., there is not a noticeable reduction in country B's employment), what should be done about this situation? Should it be estimated using the mitigated world total shock as the dependent variable instead of the shock from country A, or is there some way to take out the impact of country B's compensatory exports to other countries? Thank you very much🥹
