Crawler-Transporter Time-Lapse

Time-lapse video shows crawler-transporter No. 2 traveling from the Vehicle Assembly Building to Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The move was performed by the Ground Systems Development and Operations Program to check out recently completed modifications and ensure its ability to carry launch vehicles such as the space agency's Space Launch System heavy-lift rocket to the pad.

One of the most fascinating things I’ve ever learned is that from the Vehicle Assembly Building to the launch pad is exactly 8 miles. It takes 8 hours to get the crawler from point A to B because it crawls at exactly 1 mph. So from the time I leave my house in Atlanta to the time I reach Port Canaveral, the crawler has made it from the VAB to the launch pad. Insane

Before the time's due for scrapping it should be given away to the homeless, make sure they can't hold on to the keys in case they'd attempt to take it for a spin around the city.

Sad that NASA didn't keep the Apollo Launch tower and its Saturn V mock up inside the launch complex as a display because it would awe even the most jaded of today's youth. The 50th anniversary this year might be little more than a special PBS or a few minutes on the news and some questioned its cost at the time few could imagine that millions don't believe that the landings happened at all.
