The COVID-19 crisis is changing the way future Army soldiers are trained at the Fort Benning military base near Columbus, Ga. As of March 29, six confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been connected to Fort Benning. According to the Army, the patients were not part of training operations. Due to the crisis, some aspects of training that involve physical contact have been suspended, and physical distancing is being applied to exercises that will continue to occur. New medical screenings have been incorporated into the reception of the hundreds of soldiers that arrive every week to begin their training. All visitors are prohibited from attending graduation ceremonies, and recent graduates are being held at Fort Benning for the immediate future instead of being shipped to their new units.

Imagine your drill sergeant yelling at you with a mask on and gloves on

Yeah, right. Social distancing "works" in basic training 🤫. Everyone gets sick in boot camp without COVID-19. This is true for ALL services. 😷
I just hope those kids stay as healthy as possible.

Week 2 without sports. Found a lady sitting on my couch. Apparently she’s my wife. Seems nice.

Title: How coronavirus is changing US ARMY training.

Shows troops operating far apart.

OH SHIT THIS IS MY COMPANY haha. Yeah shit here sucks right now, but not that much has changed. We just have to stand far apart and eat lunch by platoon rather than company. Makes no sense and is annoying because when we’re in the bay we still sleep on top of each other in bunks and in tight spaces. Several companies did go to sleep in the field in week rotations at first to try and quarantine units away from each other, but I believe that’s been abandoned at this point. To much impact on training.

I was part of that February class. It was really hard to not see your family and wife for 26 weeks and not be able to see them for graduation. But the job the drills did to keep us safe was above and beyond. God bless America and God bless our military.

Does this mean drill sergeants will no longer spit when they talk and yell on recruits faces lol

That would really suck. Going through training and making it to graduation to see the stands empty

They’re not receiving, they’ve shut everything down and my ship date has been pushed back to July 7th

I was at Sand Hill, Ft. Benning, for basic back in 2018. Everyone in the barracks got sick with some kind of cold the first couple weeks of training due to the close proximity of quarters there. Unfortunately, I believe its only a matter of time before those privates will get sick.

Business Insider should rename their channel to "Military Insider".

Am I the only one that’s bothered that they call it “boot camp” instead of “basic training”?
