It's been a very long time since I had one. My last one LOVED just being on my shoulders even when out and about. It was her happy place. I'm hoping to get one that will do the same thing or able to train it to do so.

Even though I’ll never get a ferret because I already have a dog, I enjoy learning about how to care for them. Thanks!

Also, ferrets love to chew on cables, ropes, and love to drop things.they also bite hard so it's good to have one when your over 8 or at least not sensitive. They are also master escapers

Bathing should only be done once a year and without soap, use oats

For people who just got informed to bathe their ferrets twice and every month, i wouldn’t actually recommend that. Tbh, it’s not a good choice to bathe your ferret at all, they are animals who mostly clean and groom themselves, so it’s best to leave them be and not intervene with how they clean themselves.

The more you bathe the more they release scent. Once or twice a year is fine

3:18 "better to bathe your ferret 'only' twice a month"... not sure where you got those numbers from, but that's like so 2000 numbers (ferret data changes over the years, read a book on ferret care from the 1980s and they talk about its good to feed your ferret fruits). Ferret care info used to recommend frequent bathing, but like feeding a carnivore fruit, it's been determined bathing is a bad idea for ferrets, especially frequent bathing... ferrets are more like cats and less like dogs... unless your ferret is getting their coat filthy, they probably shouldn't be bathed at all, and twice a month as a routine is too often.

Frequent bathing dries out their skin and actually causes a ferret to OVERPRODUCE the musky oils that some owners are trying to get rid of... yes, frequent bathing can make your ferret SMELL MORE (as well as being unhealthy) AT MOST, once a month is probably too much, but is the "official" most frequent routine you could do, but to be honest, ferrets, like cats, clean and groom themselves, and unless they get their coat dirty from something the can't or aren't cleaning, that's the only time you should bathe your ferret.

Unless your ferret gets into something that you need to clean off of them, you really shouldn't bathe your ferret at all. They keep themselves very clean. Bathing them can actually cause them to overproduce oils that will make them smell. You'll want to wash their bedding every so often as that will pick up a smell after a while, but most people who come in our house (we currently have 5 ferrets) don't even know we have ferrets until one comes out to play (ours free roam, but we do have cages for them for them to sleep and if we need to cage them for whatever reason).

Some things to note about diet:
There are not laws for ferret food, so as long as they arent putting poison in there, food manufacturers and sellers can put whatever they want in there.
Ferrets do not need vegetable fat or vegetable protein. They need animal fat and protein. Those should be listed FIRST on the ingredients when you look at the bag or box.
CRUDE fat and CRUDE protein are a mix of vegetable and animal fat and protein, and because companies are trying to save money, that means its going to be MOSTLY vegetable fat and protein, which again, your ferret does not need. There are so few good manufactured ferret foods out there its kind of annoying. You'd actually do better to buy chicken and beef, and cook them and serve em to your ferret. Also you need to get a little tube or bottle of ferrotone and give them a bit once in a while.

I really am glad I randomly decided to click this when it popped up…the white ferret at 3:34 was sent to me when inquiring about a ferret and setting up a meeting. Now I know I almost got scammed and I don’t want to know what could have happened if I really met up with them

Hey there! I have being looking all over the internet but I can't find any information on how long you should spend bathing a ferret. I know only to bathe them a few times a year, but I'm not sure how long they should spend in the bath when the time comes. Thank you!

I’ve never had ferrets however I know for Guinea pigs those harnesses that are “made for them” are not good for their bones so just be careful with those
