Destiny 2 Lore - My 1st Impressions of the Echoes Episode. A Good Vex Story at Last?

Destiny 2's Lore and Story continues in the Episodes, starting with Echoes. With the Final Shape having been completed Bungie is pivoting to a story involving the Vex, which actually looks promising for a change. This would make it one of the first good Vex Stories in a long time. These are my first impressions of the Echoes Episode.

Hearing Failsafe go after learning she was going to be in the HELM melted my heart. She is my perfect child, I love her, and I will not hear anything to the contrary.

Glad Bungie remembered that Failsafe exists

I'm just happy to see the Failsafe again. And... That's for a weird reason. You see, I'm Russian and play with the local voiceover. And the Russian VA for the Failsafe is the same one whose voice is used by the voice synthesizer of the Google assistant analogue for Yandex - Alice. That's f#%king hilarious to hear the same voice that usually tells me where to go on the nav talking about slaying vex.

P.s. I've just realised... Exodus was a РФБА program. Which means that *it's actually Russian.* That makes the situation 10 times more ironic.

The part in the first mission, where failsafe says, “can’t reconnect with out a little bit of awkwardness right captain?” Made me soo sad. My baby missed me!

So we're going to be integrating Failsafe into the Helm. Failsafe, the AI from the Exodus Black, a colony ship meant to travel outside the Sol System. And in the final Episode, we're back on the Dreadnaight, a hige flagship meant to traverse between systems - and we're going to become its "Navigators".

This year's Episodes are all literally setting up all the pieces for next year's Expansion to be set in a System outside of Sol.

This Episode isn’t starting a new Mystery so much as it is Continuing one. A very interesting hint can be found in the Final Veil Containment Log. The Veil Interface worked through a “Chorus” of dead Exo Minds and Maya Sundaresh being the “Conductor” and back when we first heard about this, we all thought it sounded very similar to how the Witness was created… Maya Sundaresh’s Body was found in the Conductor’s Seat… this new figure she has is the end result of becoming a new Compound being just like the Witness, I bet!

Bungie said in the Episode Reveal video that this Episode will be about “Uncovering a New Civilization” if Maya and her Copies have created a Civilization within the Vex Network it would be the most advanced Human-Originated Civilization we have ever seen.

So we aren’t so much as getting a Vex Character, rather a Parasite overtaking the Vex Systems in a more powerful way than the Taken have done. And honestly I prefer that as the Vex having no direct characters is what helps them feel otherworldly, Lovecraftian and alien.

Also, we didn’t attach a Cabal Drill to Vex Tech, Failsafe did, and I trust her designs. She probably based it on data taken from the Insight Terminus.

You do see the villain in holograms watching you on nessus if you find the right vex plates. But if you get too close to those plates, the hologram disappears.

I think Mithrax and Eido might take a back seat until the next episode. It'd make sense for Mithrax to get involved with something Vex or Saint related, but with the Witness dead now, their focus will probably be on having the eliksni recover.

We learned during Veil Containment that a part of Mara Sunderesh was used to form Lakshmi, I don't find it at all surprising that whatever copy of Maya still exists in the Vex Network is trying to exert control. We saw how much Maya mentally unraveled during her time studying the Veil. Lakshmi was was an absolute control-freak during Splicer, Maya was willing to sacrifice everything and everyone in her studies, and Veil Containment hinted strongly that we're not done with them yet.

The Vex are my favorite race in Destiny 2, and this first episode has been SO cool to me.

Gotta drop this in here to Byf!!!
HUGE discovery!!!
We already know (if you didn’t already know) that the Witness broke the 4th wall towards the end of the final campaign mission where he talked about guardians going for loot, commendations and triumphs.

HOWEVER

In the 4th encounter of Salvations Edge, The Witness recognizes what we’re doing with 2D and 3D shapes and kills the 3 guardians split off into solo rooms testing to see if we can return our ghosts to each other without seeing where we are because he knows we’re communicating outside of the game, breaking the 4th more aggressively than before.

One of the micah-10 missions from the pale heart takes us back to nessus before the witness was defeated and there is a solid reference to sundaresh.

The idea of the Choral Vex is interesting to me. In the new activity there's something called Nursery Cyclops that makes me think that perhaps the new villain isn't fully "born" yet. Or, they are going strong but the nursery is for the new breed of vex that is being made.

Really really hoping we see one of the sundaresh clones in the vexnet as a villain

Today I found Kelgorath as a lowly Taken Knight in a public event forming part of Overthrow in the Impasse. He seemed to have shrunk a few sizes.

How the mighty have fallen. I can't wait to see if Byf has found any lore for this and can tell us how Kelgorath's story continues.

When I was watching the trailer for echoes, there was a bit in there that looked like a woman EXO/robot that was being assembled. That might be failsafe getting a new robotic shell. She can use to walk around in, but I REALLY hope that it’s more along the lines of the vex evolving.

Having the vex transition into more of a humanoid form would be a really cool concept. It reminds me of that Doctor Who episode, when all of those robots, stitched human flesh on them to try and make themselves more human.
