Yang is an excellent and talented surgeon but she should never have been allowed to interact with patients. She had absolutely no bedside manner and when you’re dealing with cases like this it’s a critical skill.

Tv show is called Grey's Anatomy and this is season 8 episode 17.

While they were heading to the grocery store, Michael and his husband Sam were in a car accident. Michael was traumatically injured in the accident. First, his heart ruptured and they repaired that. But the next day, his lungs collapsed. By Thursday, his kidneys failed. The sepsis and infection took three more days to kill his brain, leaving him brain dead.

After Michael was declared brain dead, his husband, Sam, signed the papers to turn off the machines. As the machines were being turned off, Sam changed his mind, so the machines were turned back on. Owen assigned Cristina to stay with Sam and make him understand that turning off the machines is the best course of action. Emily Kovach offered her help, saying she was there when the couple came in and had gotten to know Sam.

Cristina showed Sam a scan of a patient in a coma who was not brain dead and compared it to Michael's, saying that they hadn't seen any brain function from Michael in three days.

Later, Cristina came in and explained how Michael had died in slow motion. If he had died immediately after the crash, he'd be just as dead, but Sam wouldn't be feeling the way he was. He would have the comfort of knowing that Michael was dead.

Sam asked Cristina to bring him the papers, which he signed. Then he sat with his husband while he died, telling him that he was scared to lose Michael.

My stepbrother went like this. Nearly 30 years ago. Massive seizure in the hospital, then, brain death. We kept him alive on machines while my stepfather and his family decided what to do. Just last year, my stepfather was on an ECMO machine after bypass surgery. My mother was the one to tell the doctors to turn it off. Very sad. 😭

his quality of life is non existing. a machine breathes for him. he eating through a food tube, he cant use the bathroom on his own. its sad to see a love one like that. but you have to be strong and do right by them and for them. existing isn't always living...

This brought tears to my eyes I lost my husband years ago till this day I wish he was still here its like loosing the other half of yourself the worst feeling I've had yet in my life

I had to take my neighbor and friend of 30 years off life support.
Set lawyers later I had to take my own father off life support.
Even though I knew that was both their wishes it was still gut-wrenching when I had to Say the words out loud…

She’s correct though. People who insist on keeping their supposed loved one on life support when they are brain dead, sometimes for years, are delusional, and wasting services that could be used for someone who actually has a chance. I’d hate it if my relatives did that to me. It’s so incredibly cruel and selfish.
