To be honest, as a native English speaker, I definitely use the words secondly and thirdly a lot. Usually its fine to use such words when you're talking face to face and trying to "get your point across". However when you are typing out an email it definitely better use something else because using words like secondly and thirdly can definitely be interpreted as condescending. Especially with such a low context medium such as E-mail.

I beg to differ with this video/content... The basic reason why people use Firstly, Secondly, Lastly etc. is to list down DIFFERENT, MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE POINTS.... Since Firstly, Secondly, Lastly etc. are recognised Adverbs, what's wrong in using them? Else, to list down such Mutually Exclusive Points, we can use Point Number 1, Argument Number 1 etc.... I see that the Channel has commented answers like Recapitulate, In a nut-shell, To conclude etc. for 'LASTLY' as 'Good Ones', which I think is conceptually wrong.... One is wrong when Recapitulate, In a nut-shell, To conclude etc. are used to qualify the LAST, MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE POINT, because these Words/Phrases means to repeat / summarize the points which have already been listed / spoken.... My humble thought 🙏

By using 'firstly', 'secondly', etc (but perhaps not lastly) you're impressing on the listener a clear distinction between the points, and the attentive listener will absorb it as 3 (or 4 or 5, as the case may be). The brain is wired to list it down.
