on the newest beta they now give you information with 3rd party parts. I repaired my own iPhone 11 and finally have battery health and all features the normal batterys do.

For those of you actually curious it’s because iOS 18 enables Activation Lock for parts. It’s in an effort to curb iPhone thefts as even with activation lock currently, iPhones can just be disassembled for parts. As of iOS 18 Activation Lock is now applied to parts so in theory they cannot be installed into another iPhone until Activation Lock is removed.

In practice however, we’ll see how well it works.

I think it’s because they’re going to make it possible to pair parts to your Apple ID so that if the phone is stolen, it can’t be stripped for parts

Might be the back button that you can double or triple tap

I Think the “calibrate” feature just connects the part to your phone. So when you use a stolen back glass (or other parts) it does not accept it. I think this is a nice new feature. And also as device owner you can authorize if you allowed the parts to be moved to another phone.

It is probably for double or triple tap, that turns on the flashlight

I've seen some people said this is to prevent stolen phone being resell as parts. If the phone was iCloud locked, then it locks the back glass too. Thus no "used" back glass on the market.

If you didnt know, some "people" managed to tear stolen iphone into complete, perfectly fine and working pieces, including LED Flash, Wireless charging receiver and speaker are very valuable.

They even could sell the mainboard or with extra labor, they just remove the IC Nand/NVME chip or and with the SoC if its icloud/apple locked stolen device.

My guess is it being part of the stolen device protection thing. As Apple already allows part swapping from similar phones, it seems like they’re trying to make it harder for anyone to reuse parts from stolen phones. I would assume it’s a work in progress still and they’re trying to fully lock the system.

More way to prevent phones from being reused as parts I guess.

The Back glass has cellular antennas, that’s also why there are 2 versions, one for the EU and one for the US

Back tap maybe. It’s a feature in accessibility.
