On the other side, respect your instincts and listen to them. If it's june and you're hiking in the mountains with a projection of sunny n warm weather but your instincts say "bring the snow clothes" or "bring the rain gear" LISTEN💯

Dixie is a Triple Crown Winner in the backpacking world . She has completed The Appalachian Trail, The Pacific Crest Trail and The Continental Divide Trail. She knows of which she speaks.

In Boy Scouts, they always taught us to “Be Prepared”. It’s the motto. I always pack my fears because I’d rather have something and not need it than need it and not have it. It’s one of the reasons I never got into ultralight backpacking. I see people trekking these impressive and dangerous trails, and some of them don’t even bring band-aids to keep cuts from getting infected. I always thought it was crazy. But hey, I must be the lunatic, because a lot of people do it and are just fine. I guess that’s just something I need to unlearn.

Any time of year, I always carry an extra set of polyester underwear, sox, and long sleeve teeshirt. It adds little weight or bulk to the pack and is handy when I’m drenched in sweat or rain.

"Don't pack your fears"
Wow. Thanks. Never thought of that.

Here is an idea, unless you are thru hiking the AT stop obsessing on weight! Enjoy your hike. Bring some luxury items, bring extra socks and drawers so you can feel human, bring a travel size deodorant. It’s OK. Having a 10 pound dry weight does not make you a better hiker. Remember why you started hiking in the first place. If you feel more comfortable with extra water or a well supplied first aid kit, bring it! Stop listening to people tell you what to pack.

Another tip is upon returning from your trip make a list of everything that you did not use. After several trips you may want to consider removing the items from your pack that you are not using. Sometimes we all carry items because we Might need it or carry luxury items that never get used. Just a thought

Her name is Dixie. She is an engineer who made a lot of hiking videos. You should think of her as the Professor.

Be sure to make room for your best friends too: Smith & Wesson. These may come in handy to protect from bears or other intruders.

Gave it a 👍 - butt, too OCD/ "anal" ("engineers" 🙄🤪🤣) for me; maybe if you are terminally ill/ a recent cancer/NDE, etc, survivor - you need this hyper low-weight gear. Most folks need to trust their mind, body, spirit to adapt, survive, & thrive; with the gear you can afford. It's more important to spend $ on quality food/ emergency-clothing/self defense tools. You are not alone, or safe, in the wilds/ near rural communities; (see Grunt Proof video). Hike healthy & Safe!
