Took a guy to hospital for this.... what could they do for him? Absolutely nothing.

yep, I had an eye stroke due to high blood pressure. I got a shot in the eye, and what used to be a mud puddle are now letters, and I can tell that a tree is a tree. But it isn't back 100% and likely will never be. I still have a blind spot when I look at anything. I don't drive much anymore. Anything over a mile, I get someone to take me, though the doctor cleared me to drive. Would YOU want someone like me in traffic? Yeah, thought not.

My husband found out he had already had an eye stroke when he went in for a complete check up (lots of machines, and lots of pictures and tests). Please note this was a place where both optometrists and ophthalmologists work. The specialist there said he needed to start AGGRESSIVE treatment right away. He got a shot in his eye 1 week later with a prescription for eye drops - that he has to put in both eyes twice a day. He was told this would be a long term treatment. He has once a month shots scheduled for the next 3 months and the doctor will make a determination then as to where to go (either more frequent shots or possibly laser something...). His other eye has an unidentified something, so he is being treated for glaucoma with the eye drops( alphagan P .1%) . He noticed an immediate change after the injection in his eye (eylea injection). We are relieved and happy about the treatment. He was concerned about the injection until we watched a video on youtube on it. He said it was uncomfortable, but that is all. There IS treatment, so I am confused why the doctor said once occluded, there is nothing to do. Occlusion is a stroke... and we are seeing first hand there is treatment that is working... just wanted to share in case someone else needs the info!!

I experienced NAION 2 and a half years ago.
It is obvious that there are controversial (no clear knowledge) what is the main cause of NAION. So I want to express some of my personal observations here.
I suffered imputation of 2 biggest toes and frontal parts of the foot on the left leg when I was 5. This was the reason my spine become deformed with time and I suffer constant pains in the whole region of the spine. Also, I suffered tingling in my left hand and left part of my face. At night as I slept on my left side this tingling was stronger and sometimes I felt pain in the entire left part of my head.
This was I believe the reason for NAION in my case - and is probably hidden somewhere in my spine in relation to fact that I slept on the left side - this may cause increase nerve pressure in my spine and was the cause of deficient blood circulation in the left side of my head.
So it becomes pretty clear to me that in my case NAION had neurological ground and I believe it is possible that most cases of NAION are rooted in health troubles related to the spine.
Finally, it was found that the optical nerve in my left eye is decayed and I am entirely blind in that eye consequently. Also, my sight in the right eye is partially effected.
I read a statistic that every third person with NAION eventually loses sight of another eye, too, which makes me seriously think about what can I actually do to prevent this bleak outcome.
As I said it was pretty clear to me that the way I sleep may be an important factor (besides the leg injury) for my development of NAION.
First I have to say that I don't use a soft mattress for years now.
Now I decided to try to sleep solely on the back, which was firs unpleasant for me until I rearranged the upper part of my bed so my entire upper body is lifted for about 20 degrees.
This way I sleep even better now, and without tinglings or other negative effects. The entire health situation of my back is improved significantly so this gives me at least hope I will not become entirely blind eventually.
I realized that sleeping on the back has two significant advantages. First, as we sleep our spine is not curved in any direction out of its natural position, and second, by lying on the back the entire spine is not only sheltered from any coldness we may expose it during the sleeping period but is actively warmed-up and protected from below, by the warm surface of the mattress.
I wanted to speak out about this in case somebody may find this information useful.
