Hey sparky, one day can you address abandoned wires? I have a 15 amp branch to my laundry room and want to replace with 12 awg wire to support 20 amps. Since this is old work, the existing wire is not going to come out. Thanks for all your amazing work my friend and sharing these events. Heck, you even inspired me to up my game with EMT runs. Take care and hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

Yes Sparky, This video was helpful. Now, ... I won't be surprised whenever I see a YELLOW WIRE.

Nice to see that they still make the porcelain keyless lamp sockets; they do seem to be hard to find nowadays. On another note, at 8:39 I see that they still put that 660-watt rating on such things (I've seen it on plastic 'Y' adapters as well). IMO they should really clarify- somehow- what the intent of that marking is. I believe it goes back to the early 20th century, the details of which are much too great to elaborate on here (back when the average lamp was rated at 52.8 watts)...

I would not have made his color choices. I'm assuming he was provided with those colors on his rack, but I would not have set up for such a project with any BOY colors. I keep pink and purple on the shelf to give me special colors and if I were setting up that 3 way, I would have used black for common and blue and another special color for travelers. the only time I intentionally set up BOY colors for 120V is when I'm doing control wiring, and the color coding of the controls includes them.

I'm good with the coloring here, but typically when I'm running in conduit, it's 3 phase environments. There I was taught to keep black/red/blue accurate to their respective phases, so I wouldn't run a blue+black as travelers. Instead, I'll run 2 of the phase color and color tape one so I can still keep the travelers straight but also keep the phase straight. I don't want to run yellow there due to confusion with higher voltages.

Bill, I have a question for you : is it possible to make a video regarding 3 way switch wiring in a 2 story house scenario . Light switch at the bottom of the stairs, 2 light fixtures on opposite sides of the wall in the stairwell and light switch at the top of the stairs . Every video out there features 2 light switches in line and 1 light fixture, but that does help much .
Thanks in advance .

Shouldn't the plaster ears be broken off the switches?. Doesn't the EMT need to be supported within 3' of a box...or is running through the studs sufficient? Some of these screw terminations he has insulation wrapped around the screws.

Hey, Bill! Is there a typical standard for running specific color wires in regards to EMT? I noticed (I think) that he used the red conductor as the hot wire for his outlets. Is this a code/standard, or just up to the preference of the electrician?

Too cool. I’m a serious DYI retired cop grandpa. Allways helping the kids….how do you wire a three way using ROMEZ CABLE…

Question: Off topic I know, but this is a recent post so I'm taking a shot. Behind the knee walls in my attic is a storage area that I wired up for outlets with 12-2. There are four outlets on the circuit. I added a 4x4x2-1/2 jbox at the beginning of the run for future expansion. I currently have only 4 conductors in the jbox. Rather than pull wire for a lighting circuit, I would like to come out of the jbox with a short run of 14-2 to power two light fixtures in the storage area. By code, can I wire a 14-2 lighting circuit, or do I need to stick with 12-2? Appreciate any suggestions/answers I get. Thanks.

You don’t have to run green wire as as well ??

There is no ground attachment to the porcelain lamp holder, of course, but is it required that he put a grounding conductor on the box and connect it to nothing? Really? I did not know that.

That looked like a yolkless keyless... he should probs piggy an EGC on there. I would. I know it's just a keyless, and it has a non-con non-meltable chassis, but still...
