Why is luxury fashion DYING...and why do I keep buying it?!

Luxury fashion is in a very weird place at the moment, might we even say that luxury fashion is dying? That would be dramatic, but I'll be breaking down why luxury fashion is in a slump right now, but also why (as a self-diagnosed luxury addict) I keep buying it, but also ways in which maybe my spending on luxury fashion has changed. We're talking rice increases, Chanel, Saint Laurent decreasing their prices, creative directors moving around and more...ENJOY!

Constantly raising prices, lowering quality standards, and over-saturating in the marketplace. These brands thought the gravy train they were riding was the Snowpiercer. People are wising up and it's glorious to see.

A true love of fashion and style will never die. Luxury has finally met the phrase "What goes up must come down"

Cassie, it’s so strange hearing you speak about luxury fashion this way (people saying it’s silly, but to me it’s art) as it reminds me so much of how dance teachers and ballet dancers end up pressured into defending their art form and why it’s so important to us. But why can’t “I love it” not be adequate for something being THE most important thing to us personally? Without further justification or defence? When something makes your heart sing, that IS everything ☺️💛

Cassie, it doesn't surprise me that you haven't jumped on the "sell your bags" bandwagon. You get what you love and you love fashion. You're not getting bags, shoes and clothing to be part of a trend; you get what you adore, what you know will look good on you and what works for your fabulous sense of style. You make your own look, which is the point of fashion at it's core.

Dear Cassie, thank you for not hopping on the trend of selling everything. You have genuinely been loving these things. I love the stuff too. I love the hunt for a special piece and the joy of unpacking. I don't nearly buy as much as the average youtuber does - so maybe it's the redundancy for them. But for me: each piece I own is special. Each piece has a story to it about how and where I bought it. All of that. I love it and it gives me so much joy. I don't care that it doesn't make sense. Not everything has to make sense - as long as it brings joy.

$150 cigars and $1000 bottles of whiskey are consumed by many men in clubs regularly, table service is pricey. At least if I purchase a necklace, a statement bag, a jacket which I will treat with care for years and maybe pass along, there's something to show for it besides a vague memory of a single night out.

We are shifting priorities. It's important to help others and do some giving and volunteering wherever possible. Still nothing matches the memories I have of shopping with my Mom and Grandmother for a lovely fabulous coat or bag. Each piece symbolizes memories of great times.

Cassie your channel brings me joy. The goal isn't going broke to grab every single piece each season like a fashion victim, it's loving all the beautiful pieces, then choosing only what speaks to you. Stay fabulous!💕

I buy less and appreciate more what I have. But I'm not buying a bag from Zara.

Cassie, I don’t own ONE piece of luxury but that doesn’t stop me from appreciating the self expression of both the wearer and the designer! You are the ONLY luxury fashion YouTuber who I watch EVERY video for consistently because your attention to detail and verbose prose combined with your emotional attachment allow me to be both an educated AND emotionally invested viewer. Thank you for staying true to you, and allowing us to be apart of the journey. And yes, I noticed Ivy’s new septum piercing and she looks great!! ✨

Since cutting down on luxury purchases I have bought a house and a car and managed to get a pretty decent stock portfolio. For me it is an aging process and investment into my future and retirement more than into pieces that collect dust on my shelves. That was my reason for selling all my luxury pieces. Younger generations can have their moment now. I did leave some bags for myself but not much. These days I prefer to buy my clothes from Reiss because it is classic and great quality.

I think brands are making two mistakes. One, they’re trying to stay ahead of fast fashion knock-offs instead of being the ones to set the pace. Two, a negative money-spent to experience ratio. Back in the distant Nineties, when far fewer people even dared aspire to owning, say, a luxury handbag, even customers buying a a humble carré or keychain were treated like royalty. Also, the luxury market is becoming saturated: too many brands producing too many items.

This just shows who is truly from the heart the real luxury lover. This is why Cassie is my go to for anything fashion. Thank you for staying true to heart. When are we going to

Love this! I’ve been slowing down on my luxury purchases but I don’t ever see myself stopping completely. I also still consume lots of luxury YouTube content because I enjoy the content, even if I’m not purchasing the same items.

I am not sure why some believe you can't love fashion and scale back. As you get older your needs change and I've gotten rid of pieces that no longer serve my needs but have replaced them with other luxury that I love! You can do both. I love the joy a new item gives me as much as I love traveling!

I don't even own a single luxury item but I still love to watch your videos because of your energy and the way you're so passionate about luxury bags.

There’s really nothing exciting happening in the “luxury” space right now.. it’s just getting more and more expensive..

You’re my favorite on YouTube ❤ you’re authentic, you buy things you actually love, you are our fashion inspo. I watch your videos faithfully. Please don’t ever change unless it’s for the better. You’re doing great and i love that you’re not on the bandwagon of selling things because other “sheeple” have.

I can so relate to your perspective Cassie! I used to love designer fashion when I was a teen and could only dream of those items, my economic situation doesn’t affect my aesthetic preferences. A lot of people love fine art but will never own a Monet 🤷🏼‍♀️

My mum and dad died and with some of the money I “inherited” I bought a few bags - I don’t smoke, drink, eat out every week - so yes I’m very grateful - if it’s money I didn’t have before - plus my bills are paid - I have no debts as I live within my means. Keep the vids coming Cassie - I love being educated by you ❤ x x x
