wow! I was somewhat sceptical when you said that reddit product recommendations were manipulative, but after searching for the best vpn on reddit, you are so very right. I found several weird things:

-the accounts of top posters are old, regular accounts which have been inactive for a few years, but after the inactivity break, the accounts _only_ post in VPN subreddits

-many accounts have been banned, even those, who posted not longer than two months ago, I'm assuming they were botting

-in 3 month old threads, there are comments which are only 1 or 2 months old but have almost as many upvotes as the top comment

-they all post affiliate links to the VPN service
