They seem to have eaten pretty healthy chow! And no chemical preservatives!

No beer? Fried foods? Chips? Life was so cruel back then.

The soldiers occasionally found and killed a ‘roam-in’ chicken for dinner.

People don't realize how difficult is to provide food to such a huge army, its a nightmare... and 2000 yers ago? I cant imagine the headache cooking on the road, no gas stoves, no can food...

There were no preservatives or processed foods back then. This is almost 2000 yrs ago. Pollution was almost nonexistent.

It would be good to know how many calories were consumed per day.

Nice fresh food, not processed crap like a lot of it today. I bet they were healthier and suffered less diseases on that diet.

In a fort the choice of food was normal

Now imagine if the Roman Legionaries see the modern military ration, with chocolate, coffee, and ready to eat meal.

Sometimes I want to try the food the Romans ate, sounds delicious.

I don’t know how they had the energy level to even prepare their own foods and do all the other necessary things if they’re marching 20 miles a day again I don’t know why they have to do that every day but that’s just for exercise and mind you no lunch you do metabolize food in the morning. Gotta eat lunch, well they were very lean and strong and nobody was obese. As far as soldiers are concerned.
