MultiVersus Looks To Return With A Bang After Risky Hiatus

The Warner Bros. platform fighter is hoping its absence makes players' hearts grow fonder.

Back in May 2022, MultiVersus--a platform fighter in the vein of Super Smash Bros. featuring characters from across the Warner Bros. portfolio--burst onto the scene in open beta. Shaggy from Scooby-Doo could duke it out with Batman, Bugs Bunny could be seen throwing pies at Arya Stark, and the list of fever dream matchups only grew from there.

Now, in May 2024, the self-imposed hiatus is over: MultiVersus is coming back. We got to check out the new PvE Rifts mode, as well as run a few matches with three of the four new characters coming to the roster.

For the people still saying they ripped off Smash Bros., it's called a genre, you can't own a genre, it's just like all those FPS games, all of them took from Wolfenstein 3D and Doom.

Imagine if id Software patented FPS games after releasing Doom in 1993? We wouldn't have Duke Nukem 3D, GoldenEye, Half-Life, Unreal, Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Bioshock...

Imagine if Chuck Berry patented Rock and Roll? We wouldn't have Elvis, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Queen, Deep Purple...

This review version of the game seems to be running at 1.15x !? Why is my retail version too slow, heavy and laggy?

all beta long east coast players were saying the servers were bad, and west coast players kept saying they were fine. biggest possible upgrade to the game will be the server balance

Sigh, they still have that awkward phasing through/spacing hitboxes at 4:32 when banana guard juggles Finn (Finn is sort of underneath him) and when LeBron parries joker at 6:16 (joker is sort of behind/inside of LeBron and dies for it)

Im hoping it'll be a lot more tolerable with their netcode cause it was atrocious at times during the beta with the desyncing and lagging.

Returning players get A LOT of stuff. Hopefully they made the game perform better because this is a absolute last chance for this game. The almost year of silence was bs.
