You touched on it, but the switch is actually really cool with how it detects joycon colors. The switch needs to know what color your joycons are because it uses the correct colors in a few UI elements, such as when you’re pairing new ones to the switch or checking how much battery they have. Nintendo set the switch up to recognize new colors by making it so it takes whatever the joycons report at face value instead of any hard coded color options to check against, so they can just release new colors and they won’t have to be “patched in.” Editing your joycon’s internal color ids with the funny program doesn’t only make New Horizons recognize it, it makes your entire switch recognize them as being pastel green and blue and you’ll see that in the UI elements. There’s also a separate color tag for the button colors! It’s pretty sick

My anticipation for this game was through the roof. And playing it the moment it dropped evoked a feeling I hadn't felt since I was a kid playing the first AC when endless info on it wasn't easily accessible. But once you learn all it's nuances and what to expect, I couldn't help but feel this game left a lot to be desired. The early period of an animal crossing where your imagination can run wild is so special.

This was a thing in Happy Home Designer as well, but I really like that they bothered to program chords for instruments (and Gyroids) to play in tune with every K.K. Slider song. There are even specific patterns villagers will play if they're in control of the instrument.
Related fact, all the special characters became able to sing along in the HHP update but they all have the female singing voice by default, and as far as I know this was never patched.

6:35 speaking of foot steps did yk if your using joycons, depending on the surface you’re on while you’re either painting tiles or shovelling the ground you can feel the intricate details and texture variations of the ground your shoveling/painting on. Like sand and grass. It also matches up with the sound too. It’s really cool 🤩

If you want ideas for more New Horizons stuff, the mechanics of balloons are pretty interesting. Back in 2020, I learnt how they worked on a technical level in order to farm the DIY recipes that only drop during certain events. TL:DR, balloons will always spawn on one specific side of your island when the sun is up, swaps over to the other side when the sun sets, and swaps back again at sunrise. Balloons spawn in every 5 minutes and make landfall when the clock's time ends in 5 or 0.

New Horizons has a lot of cool technical stuff like this that's really useful for making your island stylish. You mentioned the trees on cliff exploit, but you can also plant a regular (not fruit) sapling behind (or directly adjacent? its been a while) to ANY tree, and that tree will never mature past the stage it was in when the sapling was planted beside it. Really useful if you want some variety in your trees.

New weeds won't spawn or mature if you have 250+ on your island. I dont remember all the specifics but you can use that limit to manipulate which ones mature into bigger weeds, and then go past the 250 limit to lock all weeds at the same growth stage.
