Let's learn how to migrate email from old server to new server or from cPanel to cPanel (include all old emails).

OLD SERVER = Server that the email account is currently on and will soon be moved from
NEW SERVER = Server that you want to move the email account to

-------------------------------------------
Step 1: Backing up email directories:
-------------------------------------------

The first step in the email migration is to backup email directories present in the old server.

1) Login to cPanel interfaces for the account in question in the old server.

2) Open ‘File Manager’ under the section ‘Files’.

3) Go ‘Up One Level’ above public_html.

4) You can see the mail directory there. Enter into the directory.

5) Right-click on the directory and click on the option available to compress the directory.

6) Now, download the compressed file to your computer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 2: Restore email backups
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Login to the cPanel interface of the new server.

2) Create the email accounts just as you did in the old server. You can create email accounts from the ‘Email Accounts’ section under the ‘Mail’ category.

3) Open ‘File Manager’ under the section ‘Files’.

4) Go ‘Up One Level’ above public_html and you can see the mail directory there. Enter into the directory.

5) Upload the email backup file to the directory.

6) Unzip the backup file and then delete the zip file.

7) Open Webmail and configure it to display the new email folders.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: Change DNS

If you followed all of the steps up to this point you should have all the files transferred, but you still need to point your DNS records to the NEW SERVER to have mail go there. When you update your records it could take up to 24 hours to take effect.

Finally, send a test email to the account. If that works to send an email from the account. You’re done!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations, Now you know how to migrate email from old server to new server or from cPanel to cPanel.

Hi DomainRacer. Thank you for the video. I am however concerned about something. When I check the server space used by some of the emails (on email accounts in cpanel) I find that they are about 400MB each, but when I do the backup as you have indicated here, the cur and new as well as the maildir size dont even come close to the size used by the mail. Am I missing something?
