Everyone forgot about Clifton Davis. He and Michael collaborated on "Never Can Say Goodbye". Michael was about 11 years old. They arrived together, holding hands at the American Music Awards. Interviewed, Michael was glassy eyed, smiling and walking on clouds. He declared that he loved Clifton. He looked like he was in love for the first time. Later during the ceremony Michael is photographed watching the awards on Clifton's lap. If you watched the show on television, then you saw it. They were on the cover of multiple magazines. I don't think there was any innuendo at the time. Personally, I felt uncomfortable because of his age. He wasn't a toddler, he was 11. 🤷
