He, like his father before him, is hopelessly addicted to it's thrills, pleasures, and debauchery. The song is basically about him coming to terms with this fact.

A stone cold classic. A simple arpeggio, stunning organ work and Eric Burdon's vocals (looks like a boxer, sounds like a fallen angel). Can't beat that. And Eric is still alive and well. They came from that time in British pop where everyone was into old-school R'n'B and authentic blues that gave the world some of the finest musicians to have ever lived. Glad you enjoyed it mate.
