Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Review - The Final Verdict

Like many, I hope that one day, we get a Persona 5 Arena game, one that allows the all star casts of Persona 3 and 4 to duke it out with the Phantom Thieves. And judging by the way that Atlus has handled narrative in Persona 5 spin offs so far, either 5 Arena won't be saddled with an elaborate story mode, or if it is, it will be actually well written for a change.

If and when it happens, we will have a hopefully superior product to rally around - but until it does, if it ever does, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax represents the definitive Persona fighting game experience. Anyone looking for a chance to duke it out with their favorite characters, some great fan service for Persona 3 and 4 lovers, or just a great fighting game, is going to enjoy what's on offer here.

Idk man the story was pretty good from what I’ve played and I definitely don’t think that they made the characters one note granted I was playing arenas story ( which is in the remaster) but I do know that the adachi side story is one of the best things persona has written and that’s from ultimax. I don’t know if you’ve played the previous games Bc if anything it gave them a funnier personality and more human one too, Bc we get to see a characters thoughts as if they were the main character, and we get to follow up on persona 3 characters lives after their game, which has really good lore building and their new designs look really nice. To say that “Story bad, stay away from it” and proceeding to do it another couple times is maybe the most L take gaming bolt has had Bc the story is definitely at least decent to great especially for persona fans, who are the majority of who’s buying it and the fighting fans get a really good fighting we’re they don’t even have to play the story if they want. To say the story bad is an L take Bc although it’s not the best it’s definitely not downright bad. Here at my review I give persona 4 arena ultimax a 9/10 and imo I think this is probably the remaster with the most worth to ever exist Bc it comes with 2 games, all the dlc, version 2.0 which only was in Japanese arcades, get to play on modern consoles, and at higher resolution for 30$ this is a huge win for persona and fighting game fans alike.

cuz of the steam release

now imagine p4 releasing on ps4

Thank you Atlus for bring this to PS4 and PC, I wish people were as grateful today that we have this game on newer systems and PC now. Fuck the games age, this game is still awesome.

I'd disagree, as P4, fighting game and visual novel nut I didn't really notice any differences in writing between P4 and P4A/P4AU (it felt like they still had the spirit of P4) and you can see different viewpoints of the characters like they were a MC. And when it came to P4's actual plot scenes, it too was "read > press x > repeat"-stuff so I don't really see a problem here. I definitely wouldn't plain out say "stay away from the story".

PS: Adachi's episode is just Golden.

throughout this whole review I was thinking if the narrator is P5 fan. I was correct. I'm pretty sure Atlus is Re-releasing this game to see how many fans would actually buy this gem again. In a few years if there's enough sales. There will probably be a P5 Arena.

What a terrible review. Not for the things it says, but for the things it doesn't say. This review is as shallow as a review can be, specially for a fighting game. It is clear that whoever wrote this doesn't know a lot about fighting games, so they just wrote a lot of fluff to stretch that word count.

1:39 I think the story is very good...I do agree most of the characters are flanderized, what they did to Kanji in this game and in Dancing all Night is criminal, but I do have one word against that, Adachi....they just made him bigger than life. Now persona 4 dancing, that story, characters, and all were bad outside of the gameplay and the fun interactions when the character dance. As a person who thinks persona 4 had the best characters of the series (I didn't play 1 and 2, who knows.) I hope they find ways to "milk" these characters more. At this point, I even think Persona 5 is a milking of those characters and story in an indirect way by Atlus copying itself, xD. I wish we could have persona 4 fes for example, if It is well made they can even make the characters more complex as 3 Fes did, see other sides of them, like in 3 even with the girls you had new points of view of them. A persona Arena with them seeing them as their future selves would be very fun to me to, I just can't have enough of persona 4 characters.

Persoanlly I liked the stories, with P4 AU P4 side is the true story, as Yu and Sho have a final fight called the True Ending, I just wonder whose characters ending in the orignal p4 is the true one

I loved P5R and P3 FES, but didn't really care much for P4G. I do love a good 1V1 fighting game, so I'm looking forward to picking this up on switch
