"Most people are not extremists, most people just are not. They don't really have a voice. Extremists have occupied noise." This is powerful stuff. I'd like to hear the rest of this thought.

For an interview with practically zero jokes or humour, that was one of the best interviews I've ever watched here on TDS. Does no harm at all for us to be presented with something like this every now and again here, especially when most viewers of TDS would share a similar ideology or outlook. No need to apologise for your lack of jokes Mr. Garland - you were compelling viewing as you were.

If your not at least a little unnerved by "what kind of American?" then either you haven't been paying attention, or you're the one asking that question. One of the better interviews I've seen in quite a while. IDGAF about politicians or celebrity BS.

Intriguing! And yet the poor guy was concerned that we only wanted jokes. I'm looking forward to seeing this, and more of him!

Love that he spoke out for journalists, but there is a real issue with the 24-hr news cycle industrial complex that we've found ourselves in. But we need to distinguish that from journalists.

I didn't think I could watch this movie, until I heard this interview. It's clear from listening to Garland, that it's a thoughtful film, not a sensationalized action adventure movie.

I think a film that depicts what an actual civil war would look like is important in a country that seems so close to civil war.

Politics is a tool to serve the people NOT AN IDENTITY!! I'm English and it breaks my heart to watch this happen to America. I hope this film wakes people up to that fact

This is the first interview I've seen in a long time that gave me hope for humanity.

Dude wrote a script for a Halo movie that never came to be in the mid 2000’s. It surfaced on the internet a few years ago. Might be the best video game adaptation script I’ve ever read. I was a fan after that. So I’m sure it’ll be great.

Eldridge Cleaver summed up why America matters to the rest of the world, and that was in 1968, when the Vietnam War was at its peak: "It is not an overstatement to say that the destiny of the entire human race depends on what is going on in America today. This is a staggering reality to the rest of the world; they must feel like passengers in a supersonic jet liner who are forced to watch helplessly while a passel of drunks, hypes, freaks, and madmen fight for the controls and the pilot’s seat."

Reading "The Beach" 20 years ago I remember thinking it was such a deep and original take on the scars of war. The feature film did not even touch the subject. I am glad Alex Garland decided to make his own films.

More interviews like this please. Save the jokes for the monologue and let the guests speak freely.

Alex was so concerned about being too serious. Bless him. That was a wonderful interview and I can't wait to watch the movie.

Get with it in the editing, guys. You cut off the outro and missed the handshake. May seem small, but capture the whole clip and give the guest their due

I love how Kosta took Garland seriously instead of just kidding around.

if i can ask anything of people reading these, go see this movie. I got lucky with a pre screening and I haven't been more pushed by a film in a really long time. its brutal and entirely possible.

Let's create a country that has healthcare and journalism for all. At moment the journalism, education and healthcare seem to be lacking for everyone but the rich. Everything in the USA in owned by a few rich billionaires. Let's stand up to the American Oligarchy.

One thing we as a people need to get comfortable asking and answering is "why do you believe that?". That needs to be a primary point of conversations.

I saw this movie today and absolutely loved it. Despite the vagueness around the political background of the conflict, I felt it was clear in its message. And living in the DC area, that last 30 minutes was so intense!
