Online workshop on Assessing the key outcomes of COP 27 and priorities for COP 28

During the workshop, we shared perspectives on the implications of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27) outcomes and encouraged faith communities to act locally in terms of sharing information and taking action to enable communities to proactively respond to climate crises ahead of COP28 in late November 2023.

The meeting was facilitated by: Dr Augustine Njamshi from the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), Dr Isaac Tchuwa from Malawi University of Science and Technology, Ngoni Edwards from the Jesuit Centre for Ecology and Development, and Francesca de Gasparis, SAFCEI’s Executive Director.

During the workshop, we looked at:

- The key outcomes of COP 27 and their implications for Southern Africa.
- The Status of the Loss and Damage thematic area and its Implication for Southern Africa.
- What Faith leaders can do to prepare for COP 28
- Dejargonising the Language of the COP for Community Involvement
- Faith Leaders’ responses to the COP Discourse
