On behalf of everyone who has struggled with personal hygiene due to mental illness thank you for helping and not judging. You saved her not just her hair.

The moment I heard one year, no brushing no washing, I immediately had to come here to tell her it happens to the best of us with depression. No shame. you survived that year, still here with us, that's a celebration. It might just be a really unconventional one🖤🌻

Bless you. I had my first major depressive episode the summer between 7th-8th grade. I sat in the dark the entire summer and every part of me suffered. The judgement I felt going to the shop to get it detangled was painful for anyone, let alone a kid. I have severe depression and have times still where I have to spend a few hours detangling and just putting myself back together. It’s painful, and so many times I see women saying “just suck it up” or “the last thing I’d let go is my hygiene”. No one knows until they go thru it and that’s all there is to it. You didn’t ask for all of that but I needed to share. You are a blessing for taking the time to help someone reach a step towards healing. Wishing both of you nothing but the best.

When you said, I spent three days detangling her hair, three days speaking Life into her...

People dont understand depression and mental illness. We can throw a hat on and put on a smiling face but be dying on the inside. May God bless her and and all those that are suffering in silence.

Depression is no joke! I’m so happy you were able to save her hair. I’m so happy you were kind to her and that she was brave enough to let someone help her.

Ok this is definitely a trauma response. I went through trauma i never couldve imagined this year, and i instantly stopped eating, sleeping, everything. My stomach never growled, and i felt nothing, dropping tens of lbs in weeks, even though I'm an athlete. It is HORRIBLE what trauma does, but I'm so glad shes recovering. ❤

When I relapsed into really bad depression, my hair has matted like this too, but my grandma sat with me for hours to help me untangle it.

Not only did this stylist spend 3 full days working on her hair, it looks like she spent 3 full days TALKING with her client. I'd bet this client is unaccustomed to that, and I'm so happy she's received some of the attention and care she deserves.

I'm so glad she didn't cut her hair off and that she found the strength to go out and be vulnerable in order to be get the help she needed. She looks wonderful and I was so happy for her and the stylist at the end. Great video ❤

I was a cna, i came into work one day to shower a lady who was bed bound with ALS, she was my first black patient ive ever showered. I was horrified when she told me her head was so itchy and if i could was it more for her. I spent two hours detangaling her hair and massaging her head. I know shes bedbound, but patients need dignity and careing for their needs is important to providing them dignity. Poor thing really enjoied the extra attention. This hairstyalist really is a miracle worker!

Damn she went through all of that effort, respected her clients privacy and didn't judge her one bit, can we have more stylists like this Im tired of being anxious going to the hair dresser and feeling like Im going to get roasted for split ends 😂

I had a client come in with bad depression. Her hair was all matted, some falling out. I spent 4 hours untangling her hair as gently as I could. That Christmas I got a random gift at my work and I realized it was from that girl. She thanked me for making her feel so beautiful again. I had no idea how much this meant to her but I'm glad I was trained right and made this girl's life a little less stressful.

Is it just me or is her hair incredibly healthy and full considering she hasn't combed, washed or conditioned in a year? Her hair seems to be in better condition than those who are getting weekly treatments. This is what should be called "good hair". Kudos to you for being able to do this for 3 days. I can barely get through 3 hours when I'm getting crochet braids done

I love what you did for her. Depression hits hard to some people. You gave her something she needed and the dentangling the hair is like detangling all the bad stuff we need out of our lives. You are amazing. ❤
