I love the visual contrast between Winthrope and Valentine in this scene. Winthrope, once a wealthy stockbroker, now a penniless bum, looking through the window of a fancy restaurant, seeing Valentine, once a homeless beggar, now living a wealthy lifestyle. Also, Louis has no roof over his head, getting rained on, while Billy Ray is under a roof, completely kept dry from the rain, symbolizing one person is living miserably while one is living comfortably.
